I've recently gotten back into MTB after a few years on the road. A mate who I ride with has suggested BPW but said ideally I need a full face helmet. As I'm starting again I don't want to spend mega bucks on something I may not need. They look like they have half decent ventilation on them which I do get a warm head. But I also have a giant melon for a head I tend to have to go for the XL size up to 63cm. Has anyone tried these helmets?

if you're not sure see if they have any left to hire for the day you're going

I bought a large in Red last year for BPW. It never got worn for this as I broke my wrist but since then, it has done a day around Cannock last year and a day at Chicksands.

I wasn’t too keen on the slightly looser fit from the stock cheek pads (compared to a full face Shoei helmet I wear on my motorcycle) so bought cheek pads the size down and it fits great.

All day comfy and well ventilated. I’d buy another if it got damaged, unless I wanted to get spendy but I am no DH HERO to warrant megabucks.

Can’t help you, but if you do find a giant full face (or open face) lid let me know as I’ve always struggled.

I currently have a 7idp open face that fits my huge swede.

Watching with interest. I nearly bought the carbon one last year in XXL but didn't as it didn’t seem well ventilated enough.

It does seem quite well ventilated but not amazingly so, so I'm holding out in the hope that Fox or someone starts doing a really well vented one for really big heads.

Be interested how you get on.

PS. When I contacted 7dp they were quite happy to swap the pads around before posting it .

PPS. 63cm isn't a giant melon of a head 😉

I’m around 59.5cm and just tried an IXS Trigger - felt like I had my head in a bucket. Might be worth a try

I can’t comment on size but I’ve got the cheapy 7idp full face helmet that I bought from the shop at BPW on impulse about 5 years ago or so. No problems with ventilation on an uplift day.

Perhaps I wouldn’t pedal up with it - for that I’d be after one of the more expensive ‘enduro’ style full face helmets with the hollow chin pieces and more vents.

I tried one of these and couldn't get on with it - pressure points etc. Ended up with a MET Parachute instead

I ended up going for the Leatt MTB 3.0 Enduro. It's a convertible helmet so I thought I'd get more use from it. Really comfy and the chin guard seems to be quite sturdy. Well ventilated too.
