New frame and my existing bars aren’t tall enough. Used to swap between 740 alloy and 800 carbon RaceFace but have decided to stick with narrower as my new frame has longer reach so doesn’t feel cramped (and they fit through the local trees). I’m on the 35 bar/stem standard.

FatBar Lite 35 alloy are the top choice.

Think I need 30-40mm rise. Had always thought that carbon bars were better at removing buzz but the few reviews I’ve seen of the Renthals suggests the opposite. Alloy ones (in black) look better and are much cheaper!

Personally I’d agree I’m finding the recent new wave of carbon bars are pretty ridge! So went back to alloy ones ended up with spank vibrocore ones which does work really well at dampening the vibrations etc.

Interesting! I'm thinking I'm best off with a bar designed to be about 750mm because cutting down a wider bar will make it significantly stiffer, otherwise the Vibrocore would be one of the top choices.

Keith @ Banshee mentioned he feels that higher rise bars have better vertical compliance too due to their shape, which makes sense to me.

So has everyone either gone to 800mm bars or is stuck in an “anymore than 700mm is ridiculous” time warp?

I briefly had 20 mm rise race face atlas 35 diameter bars that were cut from 800 to 780mm and they felt disgusting! I went back to 31.8mm and a 38mm rise nukeproof Sam Hill bar and it’s really comfortable.

The SixC 35 800s feel good at that width but even if I could cut them down by 60mm I suspect they’d end up rather brutal. The reviews of the Renthal 35s claim they feel identical to the 31.8 Renthals, which isn’t something I’ve heard about anyone else’s 35mm bars.

I could get a new 31.8mm stem but they’re not cheap and the RaceFace Atlas I have is pretty nice, solid, never creaks, looks good.
