Don't think so. It would be too narrow to be much use off road though. Perhaps something like A schwalbe marathon would do?

thanx, friend of mine at work bought a hybrid and wants "more grippy" tyres - but can't fit anything bigger than a 25

Thats some sort of hybrid! One of those road bikes with flat bars things is it?
Other wise why can't he go bigger? Just wondering.
