Looking transfer bits across from my current bike to a new 150mm hardtail frame thats designed to be 29er or 27.5+ compatible. So nothing out of the ordinary with that but i don't want to buy new wheels straight away.

So i was thinking of running my current 27.5x 2.4 wheels in the frame to begin with, i have worked out that with those wheels it will lower the bb height and take the bike down to a 65mm bb drop. Which sounds pretty low, it should be nice and stable but is it too low. I have 170mm cranks.

There are plenty of 27.5 frames out there with 50mm bb drop . The BTR ranger is about the lowest at 54.25 and thats supposed to be about best hardtail frame out there. BTR do make a 27.5 DH hardtail which is 60.5 bb drop.

Will i just get continuous pedal strikes ???

Wheel diameter has no effect on BB drop, does it?

It's measured from the axle?

Yeah BB drop will be the same but your BB will be lower.

Get some big-volume tyres and keep your cranks level and you may escape with just cuts and bruises.

... but it will still affect BB riding height.

In short words, YES, you will die...

Cheers!

Correct that wheel size has no effect on BB drop unless you are running different wheel sizes front and rear.

But your BB height will be lower with smaller wheels

I found 55mm BB drop worked great on steep stuff but was a pedal striking nightmare in flatter pedally trails. I’m now at 45mm BB drop and that’s much better (and with 165mm cranks). I can’t see 65mm drop working with 27.5 tyres except for gravity riding.

Note, these are unsagged figures!

So 27.5x 2.4 vs, what 2.8? So .4" lower??

Yes. Death is inevitable.

Stop overthinking it. Just ride it and see?
