Looking for some help with tyres for a new 650b bike. Currently running crossroam f&r which are ok but looking for more out and out grip, riding anything from Gisburn to Lakes/Scotland.

I was looking at a spec butcher front and purgatory rear but don't think they do this combo in 27.5

Any other suggestions?

Cheers

spesh have 650b on the way, not sure when though

im using hans dampf front, high roller rear II and they are very good, if a bit draggy- especially the HR

you can also get ardents which are popular, though ive never used em

apparently 650b smorgasboards very soon and chunky monkeys in the future, which from a vfm vs performance point of view will probably be hard to beat

I use a pair of Hans Dampf's on mine for everything; 2.35" Trailstar on the front and 2.35" Pacestar on the rear. Good for Peaks hammering. in fact, the best tyres I have ever used! Ran tubeless so as yet no punctures at all, fast rolling for what they are (better than Maxxis High Rollers imo) and predictable on the corners.
I found these to be the cheapest...

Mavic charge on the front, and a chunky maxxis on the back, both 2.4, plenty of grip around bits of Scotland.

I'm liking Magic Mary front and Trail King rear, tons of grip, decent in all conditions, not too slow rolling.

This:

is in a completely different world of grip to this:

nobby nics up front and racing ralphs out back. accelerate nicely and plenty of grip up front

Almost DH vs XC racing!

After much deliberation I've decided to stick with the same as I ran on 26". Hans Dampf Trailstar front and Nobby Nic pacestar rear (just a bit less draggy than the HD), gone for a 2.35 NN this time though. Both in snakeskin sidewall version. Was put off the Contis by reports of sidewall wear and didn;t really have a good reason to change what I liked anyway.

Ordered from zee Germans as they are always significantly cheaper for Schwables.
