My quest for the n+1 bike goes on and I have been wondering if a 650b bike would make sense alongside the Bronson as I could share the 240/Enve wheels between the two and get some burlier ones for DH days on the Bronson. There seems to be plenty of 29ers out there but I haven't heard of many 650b 120mm fork hardtails..?

If you're a small then the Kinesis Sync Ti is 650b. Med and Lg are 29, I've got the Lg, stunning bike 🙂

Edit: Beat me to it 🙂

I'm 6" so assume I'd need a large. There's a nice 29er Lynskey in the classifieds but I liked the idea of being able to use my Enves on it... Explosif looks nice.

The spectacular ride feel, compliance, lightweight, snap, liveliness, and comfort of Titanium come to life in a long-time Kona classic: the 2015 Ti Explosif. Also available as a 27.5-inch-wheel aggressive cromoly Trail bike, the frame-only Titanium version comes straight from the pros at Lynskey Performance Designs and features the same geometry as its cromoly brother: 68 degree head tube angle, short 420mm chainstays and wicked standover. The result is a lightning-quick, feather-light, fun-as-hell Kona hardtail built to rage technical singletrack from the US to the UK and beyond.

I'd make a strong vote for the stanton switchback ti.

I have the slackline ti, is my 2nd ti hardtail, having previously had and adored the Ragley ti.

The stanton frame is really well made (only complaint no bottle mounts), once up to speed it rides superbly, its a fairly stiff ti frame (think cove brand) but it works at speed and starts to make more sense.

I run a 130mm pike on the front, with an external lower headset cup. It will turn its hand to everything, large drops, 4x, Xc duties.

Has a proper threaded BB, 31.8 seat tube for a dropper and 44mm head tube to cover all bases up front.

I'd expect the switchback to be equally brilliant.. its a fun purchase a ti hardtail - do it 🙂

Kona looks nice. Get a ride first, as always. I had a urge for a ti frame but the one I got (Lynskey) was just too twangy and didn't ride well at all. Back on steel now.

If you'd like to make one for a short arse (5'7") with some slidey dropouts/ebb/magic so I can run it SS (and rigid) that would be right up my street!

470mm rigids play quite nicely with sagged 650B geometry actually.

Interesting, I've got some 445mm rigids on an inbred that I squeezed some 650bs in. Seems to work quite nicely, although saying that I'm used to steep and racy xc bikes so it might feel like a bag of spanners to some people.

mine was a 26er Ridgeline.

Lynskey got the geo wrong on their website so my original 'medium' turned out to be too small, so I had to send it back and re-order a large. When that finally arrived it was a ungainly gate. Sold it on for a loss of £400. Never again Lynskey.

For info - I asked for bottle mounts on mine and Dan had Argos add them FOC.

What do you call it when you have a 29er front end on a 27.5" frame? Whatever it' called, Steve Worland used to have a Pacenti built like that and really rated it. A Ti equivalent would be a really interesting move.

Can apparently fit 650b wheels in my Commencal flame if the sliding dropouts are set right back
Might give it a try if I can borrow some wheels and a fork off someone to try

29er forks are 20mm longer than 650B ones for the same travel.
29er wheels are 18mm larger radius for the same tread pattern (ish).

So potentially not the end of the world to swap 120mm 650B to be a 100mm 29er front end. And certainly a lot closer than the attempted 26-29in swaps that people have done.
