My v1 Tripster ATR is quite happily rolling on 700c Mavic Ksyrium Allroad wheels with either 30mm or 38mm tyres, depending on what I'm up to, but I'm thinking of getting an additional set of 650b wheels to run a wider tyre for more adventurous forays off-road.

Looking at wheelsets, something like the 2016 Mavic Crossmax have an internal width of 19mm so should suit something around 40-50mm but I'm confused about freehub compatibility... and a few other things. 🙂 I've had a good search on here so apologies if I've missed the answers already, but:

Will an 11spd Shimano 6800 road cassette fit the Mavic freehub?
If not, will an XT 11spd cassette work with 11spd Ultegra 6800 levers?
Does anyone currently run 650b in a v1 Tripster ATR?
Will I see any real benefit (in terms of comfort and ability to ride rougher routes) from the new wheels?
If so, any other suggestions for decent wheels please, probably based around a Hope RS4 hub, or a Pro 4 if a road 11spd cassette will fit.

Thanks in advance!

Don't go anywhere near the alloy spoked mavic wheels! Total pain in the arse for spares and repairs.

Not the v1 but i have recently built a v2 tripster and had a pair of wheels built for it.
I went for stans crest mk3 rims with hope pro 4 hubs. The build from my local was excellent value
With dt swiss spokes.
Im running 47mm terrane elwoods on it and they are great for a bit of everything.

I'm using my Shimano 700c wheels for tarmac short commute days. Longer off road commutes I've got 27.5 crests and 42c wtb resolutes, loads more comfy, not just in the tyre but the wheel build aswell. Can't say I notice any extra BB drop after a few seconds.
Edit- on a Saracen Hack not a tripster.

Thanks all so far - really helpful and it's useful hearing general feedback comparing the two, too, thanks scruff.

I've read a bit more and as far as I can see, the Pro 4 freehub is supposed to be fine with Shimano 11spd road cassettes, so it's probably looking like a set of Tech XC hoops unless there's any other ideas?

Is anyone running 650b in their v1 Tripster? If so, with what tyres - and what's clearance like in the forks and frame? I've got PDW guards that I'd probably prefer to retain, but don't know if that'll be possible, so it's not a biggie if I can't keep them on.
