So I’m running a 650b trail
Bike at the moment - it has Yari / Lyrik hybrid forks on it (started life as a Yari but now has the C1 debonair airshaft / Charger 2 damper / SKF seals) running 150mm, but the bike is also ok at 140mm travel.

The forks *may* be about to self destruct. They were serviced in the last couple of months but after a wet Antur uplift day yesterday they felt awful on the ride around Machynlleth today. Like a cheap Suntour fork.

They already have a few gouges / scratches on one stanchion from a few years ago where a stone jammed between the stanchion and the fork brace - but until recently it hadn’t got any worse - I think it’s started to deteriorate a bit recently. The forks are non-boost which is a bit annoying when you want to run a big 2.6” winter tyre (Magic Mary or Hillbilly) and a mudguard - both won’t fit. Whereas my boost pike ultimate easily swallows the same tyre with an rrp big mudguard.

I’m going to whip the lowers off this week and have a look at the seals and bushings - if they look ok I’ll just change the foam rings and regrease / lube the forks. If the bushings are ok but the seals are toast I’ll change those.

My question is, could I run a 29er / 650+ fork with a 650 wheel in it? If so is the A2C likely to be longer - if so do I just need to run the fork with shorter travel? I guess I’d be looking at a red Lyrik Ultimate (assuming I could even find one in stock anywhere).

Are you assuming that think you'll convert your front wheel to boost if you need to?

Yes.
Yes. About 10mm
Yes.

(That’s my plan anyway)

Interesting - cheers. Could maybe run a 29er fork at 140mm travel then with the existing wheel as an interim option. Will see what the manufacturer says about it - assuming it might invalidate the warranty but just want their view on whether I would risk snapping the headtube off or something.

Non boost current wheel is a Hope Pro 4 - I have the official Hope spacer kit to make it boost if needed.
