With all the obvious quips about the emperors new clothes making the trail come alive........
And the incarnation of a BOOST Size.........
What is the current width being fitted to these BOOST sized frames, or is it just the tyres that's gotten bigger?
Just looked on Stans site and noticed they do a Fat Bike rim but all the others remain at 29.1 or is it that they haven't caught up to the ever changing wheel fiasco.
Who's running this new wider set up and what wheels please.
Boost is just the axle, Plus is the big tyres- a 650b Boost frame will probably only usually be built for normal tyres.
Boost is longer axles and wider chainlines, the wheelsize is 650B+ (or B+, or 27.5+).
Boost frames have a 148mm rear dropout width.
That allows for a wider hub which (supposedly) makes for a stiffer wheel at larger diameters.
It also allows for a wider chainline, thereby removing some limitations on tyre width.
Frames may, or may not, have enough room for a wide tyre when you get to the chainstay/tyre/chainring area.
There's a fair chance that Boost could become the new standard, though who knows 🙂
I'm currently riding a Pact Bikes custom Ti frame with a Panaracer 3" FatBNimble on a WTB i45 Scraper rim and 2x11 XT chainset.
