The wife is after a new bike, LLS and with 140/150mm travel and preferably a 150mm fork. Demoing in the current world (and actually buying) is, understandably, proving difficult.

She'd like 650b wheels as she's never ridden a 29er and at just over 5'6" thinks she might be a bit on the short side for one.

She currently rides a 2015 medium Cube Stereo 140, which for the size is pretty short in the reach at 428mm. Her small hardtail is similar reach but a fair bit slacker which she likes. Short list so far is:

Privateer 141 - looks great but very short top tube and maybe a tad weighty.
Nukeproof Reactor 275 - slightly shorter than current bike but a good bit slacker.
Vitus Escarpe 27 - getting one might be an issue and she's not sure she likes the look of it.
Cotic Flare - spot on but she doesn't like the colour and only takes a 140mm fork.

So any suggestions very welcome.

Scout looks ace but to spendy, Spitfire is short and next size up the seat tube is long.

Bird Aether 7 might hit the spot - 130mm rear and is warrantee’d for 150mm front.

650b, nice short chainstays for good cornering, 65 degree ish headangle (might be slightly slacker with the 150mm), loads of sizes - all with short seat tubes so you can run a long dropper. Also not spendy like the Scout or Banshee -
And you can completely customise your build - depending what’s in stock right now.

I'm under 5'6" and happily ride a small Solarismax with 29" wheels.

Thanks for the suggestions but 140mm is minimum really, it's going to be used in the Peak/Lakes and she'd like a decent amount of squidge.

And she's ruled out a 29er as she's never ridden one and might not like it. Though she might love it but demos are difficult (mine are to big).

Oh and the T140 are challenging in the looks department.

Just to add on the travel I’m not convinced she’d notice 10mm difference in rear travel. Plus the geometry is probably more important and the Aether is on the edge of enduro in that respect - except for chainstay length to keep some playfulness.

I’ve done all day uplifts at BPW / BMCC and then a lot of other Welsh trail centres on it. Actually prefer it for all of that over the 170f / 160r travel bike I had before it. The only places it slightly slows down is over repetitive large roots across the trail or really big rock gardens.

I don’t know how far you are from any of the bird test centres but they were doing demos a little while back. Not sure if that’s on hold for lockdown 2.0 or not.

You could look at the Juliana version of the Santa Cruz Bronson too - the Transition Scout on paper hits the brief but from what I can make out the new carbon frame is quite heavy for carbon + it’s very spendy.
