A workmate recently bought a new bike for his autistic son that has a 6 speed drivetrain with a grip shift. His son loves riding but is struggling with the grip shift.

He has asked me about getting a thumb shifter. The rear mech is Shimano but there is no other information on it.

Can anyone confirm we can use any Shimano 6 speed shifter, or are we looking at Changing both?

Thanks

Yep, 6 speed trigger shifter will work fine.

Slight hijack but my daughter struggled with having enough grip strength for the grip shift or even the regular thumb shifter so we bought this which fits over the thumb shifter to give more leverage. Helped her a lot.

My 5yo struggled with gripshift, so fitted 1x10 xt/zee to her mtb. She's got 7sp gripshift on her isla with a stainless inner and sp41 outer and prefers it now.
