Got new BBs fitted about 6months ago...about a month ago I noticed something wasn't right, changed the freehub.then changed the retainer ring then noticed the BB was wobbley as
Thinking now its probably 5 months and I've killed my new MT-800 BB ( fatbike riding).....gotta be a record...call Guinness.

Going to swap to hope BB...surely that's gotta last longer?

Built my current bike end of September 2019, replaced the bottom bracket early April 2020, so almost exactly 6 months.

E13 30mm press fit in a pf41 shell. That 2nd BB lasted a year... So I'm now on a 24mm crank on a hope press fit BB.

My next frame to replace this one will be threaded.

I had a Superstar one that lasted about 3 rides once, (estimate, it was a while ago, but definitely not measured in months)

By contrast I've had square taper types that have lasted years.

So, no inner tube to connect the two BB shells?

What cranks?

I’ve got a press fit Hope BB in my Shan 27, fitted in 2014, still going strong 👍🏻

I thought you were going to be claiming the record for the longest lasting GXP BB when I read the title.

ISIS was absolutely the worst I've experienced. Proved cheaper to get new cranks I could use with a UN72 BB. Those things would last the life of the bike.

MT-800 BBs are good. Something wrong with set up by the sounds of things. Missing the spacer/seal and/or excess preload?

I take it that you don't remember the days of ISIS (the SRAM bottom bracket standard not the Islamic extremist group). They could last a couple of wet rides. The Shimano octolink standard weren't much better.

Had 2 SRAM BBs last <3 months in a row. No jetwashing etc. Utter garbage. Replaced with an Uberbike ceramic BB and 4 years later it's still perfect

I did a Deore one in exactly 6 hours- endurance dh at fort william, it was totally notchy and indexed by the end of the day. Probably not very fair!

Check out the Uberbike stainless steel ones. They have replaceable bearings and are a decent chunk cheaper than the Hope ones.

They are also very good.

Don't think I've ever seen an FSA bottom bracket last any length of time. Their headsets are marginally better.

You'll probably see this said a thousand times before.

Open up new hearings where you can and pack them with quality water proof grease. Then cover them and all the seals and covers in plenty of grease. Do this even when new, then again every 6-12 months apart. This can extend the lifespan a fair bit.

This is true

This can extend the lifespan a fair bit.

This is not.

Packing fully rotating bearings is a great way to wreck the races and shorten the lifespan. Pivot and headset bearings - fine, anything that rotates fully - absolutely not.

I think I'm on a winner if I get 3 months out of a Deore in winter. That's even with little or no washing. I'm no engineer, but to me the design is fundamentally flawed: all it needs is a bit of wear around the plastic disk they laughingly call a "seal" and in goes the water and associated filth......

Time to get the bottom bracket faced? I know if I was going to start dropping any more money than an XT BB costs I would be.

I bought my Kona Dr Dew in 2006. It came with a Truvativ road crankset with GXP BB. In the first year under warranty I had 4 replacement cranksets and 8 extra BBs. The shortest lasting BB last 2 miles to work on Monday morning. It’s replacement fitted on Wednesday lasted until the following Tuesday.

I replaced the BB with a Hope one in 2007. The crankset failed again in 2008. The RaceFace crankset and that Hope BB that were fitted in June 2008 are still going strong. It did 2 years of commuting then has been used as a town bike with some CX racing and gravel path type riding since.
