As the title - it's been years since I've had a drop-bar bike, but I've been wanting to scratch the gravel itch for a while now and have a bit of money set aside. Been looking at the new Calibre Lost Lad/Dark Peak, and also the reduced GT Grades that have been linked to here, but am at a total loss when it comes to sizing.
I'm 6' on the nose, with a 33" inseam. Main bike is a large Bird Aeris 145 with a 40mm stem, also had a 19" Voodoo Wanga which I ran with a setback seatpost and a 100mm stem. Normally I just pick a Large in whatever, but have read reports saying that the Grade comes up big, which the geo tables doesn't seem to back up? Just after a bit of advice from people of similar height, cheers!
I'm a baw hair short of 6' and also have 33" legs. Bought a PX Tempest in large and flipped the stem up the way for my creaking back. Fits perfectly for reach, nad clearance etc. I'd reckon you'd be a large in most brands with those proportions.
6 foot here, ride larges in most co's MTBs, a 58cm Trek Road bike and a 56cm Specialized Sequoia gravel bike. Feels more relaxed than the road bike.
Cheers!
Anyone else? Thought everyone rode gravel bikes round here.. 😉
185cm and a 57.5cm Salsa Warbird (ride a 58cm road bike)
Large Geometron G1/G13, and a large Fearless Vulture.
I'm exactly 6ft and I ride an XL Arkose. I prefer the higher stack compared to the large and longer TT. I run it with a 90mm stem and 172.5 cranks.
Saddle rail to crank centre is 76cm and I have around 18.5 cm of exposed post which is perfect.
The bike is used for mixed surface riding but not steep technical trails. If I was going to use a gravel bike for that (why though?) I'd drop a framesize.
Another planet-x Tempest owner here. 5F11, short 31in legs. Large was perfect for me. I ended up putting a zero rise stem (90mm same length as the one it came with). Also had a L Aeris (original Mk1)
I'm 6'1 with long legs and on a 58cm Grade (first gen). Not sure how much the geometry has changed with the new one but mine has a pretty high standover so I'd be looking at a 56 if I was much shorter. However, on other brands I'm definitely a 58-60cm. My sizing strategy is to find a bike that fits and then compare reach and stack heights on other bikes - this tells you more than the size can.
182cm (5ft11 and a 1/2) and a 56cm Cannondale.
Measured it the other day and it turned out the "reach" from the nose of the saddle to the bars is 1" shorter than my road bike. But looking t it the wide point on the saddle is further back so it's probably more to do with that. Bar's are about 3cm higher than the road but the road bike has shallower drops so again once in them they're much the same but the hoods are more relaxed.
56 Singlular Kite here, could have probably gone for a 58. Trying to convince myself I don't need a 58 Soma Fogcutter....
Edit 6ft, 34" leg
6' with a 31" leg here - I've got a medium arkose (one of the earlier ones).
I whilst it's comfy and fits fairly well, I think I could have also got away with a large.
I'm a bit too tall to be in this club, but it might help:
6ft 3in and on an XL space chicken. Also ride an XXL Jeffsy 29. I generally go for the biggest frame in 98% of bike sizes (maybe not a geometron).
5' 10.5" 32" in seam. Large Sonder Camino with short stem here. At six foot, large should fit perfectly.
6'3" with about a 34" inside leg and I'm on a 61cm Specialized Crux.
6'1.5", 34" inside leg with gorilla arms
58cm Spesh Tricross sat in the garage doing nowt 'cos I'm always riding my XL Sonder Camino
a hair under 6ft here and 34" inseam
I felt reach was better on a medium, but I should have gone large as headtube is short, shoulda just got the large and a shorter stem.
Get a large.
I'm 186cm (6'1 and bit inches) and ride a 58cm Specialized Sequoia - wouldn't want any smaller.
Brilliant, that helps loads - although not really as the one I really want is only in a Medium! Still, it'll save money..
