Worse feeling ever, knowing your home has been violated, hope the insurance sorts. How useful have the police been??

Must admit gone a bit ott with mine recently, some lads hanging round the flats i live in, caught them eyeing up my bike as i returned from wales the other day, double locked them, and sorted insurance from cycleguard that day, normally house covers but thought would double protect, going to get another gold lock today.

police are trying, theres no much hope.
although a pair of scallies have been hanging around the area this morning,a van then appeared to pick them up,i wanted the communinty officers to search the said van but they said they dont have the power to stop and search.police cars came 5 mins later to give chase.
i think this pair have been casing the area for other stuff to steal but i could be wrong.
the gang rode off with six bikes last night,my garage has 3 extra paddlocks and its just below our bedroom window-a six strong gang of hoodies sounds like a very well organized crime ring.

Jesus six bikes.....there's some gypsys suddenly appeared at bosley lights bnot to far away, wouldn't surprise me being them casing out leek as its the next town

Though to be honest it sounds like they knew what was in there?

Do you ride from home or roof rack etc? Just wondered whether you have been spotted and followed?

bad times either way

Gutted for your loss mate, I hope the rozzers manage to catch these toerags.

I balance an old roasting tin on the bikes and stretch a bungie to the garage door from one of the bikes... if the garage door is opened then the bike drops as does the roasting tin and all hell breaks loose and yes it does work as it caught the stepson unawares the other day.

It also helps having furry crocodiles, they are by FAR the best alarm system known to man anyone comes near the house and we know about it.

Is there a door from your house into the garage? If so then it is classed as a burglary not a theft and your contents policy should cover bikes, regardless of them being bikes. If not, then the crime is theft from an outbuilding, and there may be a cap on the liability. I'll see your six bikes and raise you one.

my partner and i heard nothing last night.
My neighbour had heard a noise and came out to investigate-only to see a gang six strong, each ride off with one of my bikes.
i say MY,one was my partners ,one was my lads
my 29er was used for a cross country commute each day because of its speed and its probably the one i shall miss most.
the insurance is capped at £2500 through avia.
its just a matter of proving what i owned as most were bought through ebay a while ago, they were all good buys and have been maintained thoroughly.
on paper £2500 wont come close

Think things may have changed, was burgled and two bikes taken from inside house last year.
Think they had return visit and ripped shed open a few months later and Copper said it was going down as Burglary: Non dwelling so both house and outhouses/sheds are now classed as burglary.
Burglary: Dwelling and Burglary: Non Dwelling.
Hope you get reunited with the bikes matey!

No use to you now, for which I apologise, but for others reading the thread, I suggest putting details of your bikes on http://www.immobilise.com/

I have photos of all my bikes together with distinguishing build features, frame numbers, serial numbers from forks & Rohloff etc. Since I build all mine from scratch I dont have a "receipt" for it to prove ownership. This is a better alternative. I also update it if I change the build. It's also handy for adding anything else of importance, say, laptops or jewellery, not that we have anything like that that's worth anything like as much as the bikes...priorities and all that.

I hadn't really considered this as being something to avoid until recently, when I saw someone driving through the middle of Clydebank with a bright orange Orange Five on a roof rack.
Very noticeable and it would be dead easy to follow them home, if you were that way inclined.
