Hi all.
On my commuter I have a Ritchey MTB Pro S Disc hub which comes with a beefy 9mm QR.
Recently, to take advantage of an expiring voucher, I ordered a DT Swiss RWS QR skewer, which has a 5mm axle.
Since I've heard that the RWS are more secure than typical eccentric designs (plus the fact that the black/red lever is a better match to the colour scheme of my bike as opposed to the metallic grey Ritchey), I thought about exchanging the Ritchey QR for the DT Swiss.
Now I know that front wheels are held in place by the horizontal compression forces exerted by the skewer and that the RWS may increase these forces up to 50%. However, I feel reluctant to change to the thin axle which floats into a hub designed for a 9mm axle. Will I even be able to center the wheel properly? will it be safe?
Any thoughts?
not as it is. you'll need to replace the adaptors on the hub for regular 5mm ones if possible. TBH the 9mm is probably a better bet, in the absence of a 9mm RWS, which would have been a slot in replacment...
