You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi I understand given the current situation with everything going up that this is one hundred percent a first world problem but after my last few forum posts thought I would give some back ground so I could get some suggestions.
I have just had a promotion at work and after working hard for years to get to this place are starting to think about treating myself to a trail bike.
I currently have a levo sl which I love but would like another normal bike to use along side this, I sold a giant anthem advanced 27.5 120/110mm travel which I regret selling, current plan is to use the bike on local loops, trail centres and hopefully some endurance races with my son, i.e ten under the ben etc etc.
Very nearly pulled the buy button on a Canyon spectral 125 but after seeing all the bottom bracket issues have left that idea for a while.
Would look secondhand too.
So suggestions would be great please, so I can spend my nights looking lol
Hi joined the facebook group earlier and it seems that lots of the frames are creaking and cracking around the bottom bracket cups.
It seems the inserts into the carbon frame are failing, would be happy if this was not the case but something I need to look into more first.
If you regret selling the Anthem then a poverty spec Transition Spur or good spec YT Izzo might be good modern equivalents.
I do regret selling the anthem but probably want a little more now.
Some i have looked at.
Canyon spectral 125mm
Canyon spectesl 29er 160mm
Stumpjumper evo
Trek fuel xt
And lots of others lol, like I said just in the planning and research stage.
In the grand old tradition of recommending what you ride… Whyte T140/T160
Carbon orbea occam or LT if you want more travel. Great all rounder.
I'd buy lightly used. You'll get a full on superbike for that. Just about anything you can dream of.
Yeah I know lol, but I do not need to spend that amount less would be better as the rest can go on other things but are in the lucky position to do so if i want to, like I said just looking and researching at moment.
If I was spending that sort of money to compliment my Kenevo, is be looking at a Sonder Signal TI Pinion
29", titanium, pinion gears

Vitus Escarpe. Had a 2021 CRX 29 for just over a year now and love it. Had been like hens teeth to find in stock but someone I know recently got a CRS and seems that CRC have some stock of that and the top spec £4.5k AMP model now.
Second hand Hope HB130
I’d buy lightly used
Unless I'm mistaken there's a lovely Trek Fuel up for sale on PB at the moment... @weeksy might be able to confirm 😉 you'd have enough left over for another bike too 😁
Since you've already gone to an eBike just buy a decent spec HT like a Scandal (circa £1200) or another basic but on point for geometry etc as it sounds like you're just wanting something else for odd rides etc,
No point spending loads when it's just a second bike - and realistically, will you actually really ride it much?
As you've seen with the Canyon 125 via the owners forum, no bike is immune from issues. My honest suggestion is go to one of your local stores and see what they have, many of the newer bikes aren't too dissimilar with regards to geometry you'll just need to decide if you want rockshox/SRAM or Fox and Shimano on your bike.
Transition spur seems to be universally loved by reviewers and owners and it looks amazing , ibis ripley looks pretty nice as well .
5k would get you a very nice flare max with some top end parts .
Nukeproof reactor - various flavours of alloy, carbon, 275 and 290 - £3k-£6k.
Carbon orbea occam or LT if you want more travel. Great all rounder.
+1
Climb quite well 🙂
I tried a T140 S around Stirling, Dollar and some of the Tweed Valley. They do not cost much in AL. Great trail bike for the UK. Fast like a Norco Optic but smoother. Climbs as well. Was very impressed with it around Dollar and then the Golfie. Was fun on 27.5 again.
Carbon orbea occam or LT if you want more travel. Great all rounder.
+2
You can't see the climb here but believe me there was one 😬

What size would you need? Tredz have a Norco Optic C1 with a bit of money off. Looks great in that green.
I used to have one of those Anthem 27.5's (running 130mmm front / 110mm rear) but recently upgraded to a Transition Spur.

GX spec, exactly £5k. Upgraded the wheels to carbon which added another £1k though. Best bike I've ever owned. Does long XC rides, fast and flowy trails, steep tech, whatever. It won't float through chunk like a longer travel trail bike but most of the riding I do is fast door to door XC loops around 25-35 miles distance. I spent about a year researching new bikes and it came down to the YT Izzo or the Spur. Managed to find a Spur first but the Izzo would be a good choice too.
Upgraded the wheels to carbon
Which ones?
I need to change my front rim having been fobbed off by DTSwiss so am interested in the options.
Nukeproof reactor – various flavours of alloy, carbon, 275 and 290 – £3k-£6k.
+1 I fricken love mine. I don't get out much these days and I'd lost some confidence, but this bike has brought the confidence back in spades. I'm riding better than I have been for years!!
New bikes are like cheating, they're just sooo good!!
Which ones?
Roval Carbon Control 6B ( https://rovalcomponents.com/products/control-carbon-6b-xd )
Been super happy with them.
Was going to say Nukeproof Reactor too.
Carbon frame, full XT and available! Just over £5k. Stonking value.
@thegeneralist
We are running carbon rims on all our bikes. Rovals, Sixth Element and Nextie. Ive just swapped out my Rovals on the S Works Levo for some more Sixth Element with the lifetime warranty.
Our oldest set is Sixth Element from 2017 and still going strong. Abigale did 2 seasons racing EWS and UK Enduros and DHs on them. They are now on her Turbo Levo getting a battering between her or her dad.
Demo'd one recently at Hamsterley - it's a fantastic bike and has gone to the top of my list.
With 5k the world's your oyster and no expense need sparing. I used to buy fully secondhand, but I think building from nearly new parts is the best plan now. That way all of the wear parts can be bought new.
You could comfortably pick a travel length and have full xtr, carbon wheels and factory suspension for that.
Or like, buy a new poverty spec bike draped in gx and an extra 10lbs of cheap metal OEM finishing kit.
Thankyou everyone, going to look at a nukeproof reactor tomorrow but no rush at all to purchase anything and got to get it right but I am drawn to the nukeproof looks great for the money.
I think that would be a decent allrounder - for a 140/130mm bike it has more of a focus on downhill vs uphill - I really fancied one but like the Aether 9 the alloy one was out of stock when I was looking
It is looking like a really good all round bike and maybe not the best climbing bike but overall a good balance vs spec and money etc.
If you were building from a frame, the Bird Aether 9 (and others) are currently discounted by about 20%. Short term summer promo. Gives you loads of budget spare vs. all other frames.
Just posted my Orange stage evo in the classifieds -shameless plug!!
Thanks for the shameless plug but I would need a medium dam these short legs lol.

Gx for £3500 used is criminal.
Gx for £3500 used is criminal.
I agree. It does come with a whole rest of the bike though, so I’ll not call the police just yet.
