Felt Surplus 70

Seems to tick a lot of modern standard's boxes if he's a medium.

Spooky I was about to start an identical thread for my kid. He is a medium and I was just going to order to the Vitus Nucleus and then I spotted the Felt on the On-One website, very interested on people's opinions I've done a bit of research and it seems to be 2017 model, still on sale at Sunset Cycles at close to full price. Only negative I can see is the Euro brake setup - hopefully this is an easy swap

That felt looks good maybe smidge big 🙁 ideally 16” frame 17” at a push I’ll check sizing.

Well as a slight aside I bought a vitus nucleus frame off CRC when I was looking for a quick replacement for my stolen Soul as a gap bike whilst I got funds together. But at the minute, I can't see me swapping it as it's a hoot! Granted my soul was one of the pre-longshot Souls. But the Vitus frame seems to be just about the best £110 I have spent on bike's in my life!

I did similar to the boatman -
I bought a Vitus hardtail frame in a sale for £150 (Sentier Vrx+) and built it up myself and it’s so much fun to ride on. Whether trails / pump track / just mucking about its great. If he geometry is similar to the sentier I can’t fault it.

Check the geometry on the Cube - sometimes they can be a bit older school xc which could be less fun. Although at least the fork spec is better from a quick look.

I thought the standard answer here was Voodoo bizango if you can catch it in a sale - or the one down is also ok. Obv you’d need to size up a bizango as it’s a 29er.

I don't think you can really beat the Vitus Nucleus for a £500 bike.

I’m currently waiting for the postman to deliver a Marin Nail Trail for my son.

It appears a lot of bike for £625 (Paul’s Cycles).

I'm selling a 2016 whyte 901 frame but I have most of the parts for it. You would need brakes, rear mech and shifter. Happy to sell them altogether if you want them. Great bike, long and slack modern hardtail geo. It's in the classifieds.

Apologies if I'm not ment to link to sales on the forum.

I have nothing to add. And this really isn’t a humble brag. Just an out-loud wondering. I just spent that on a wheel. Am I getting it wrong?

That felt and the vitus look like a lot of bike for the money. And easier to ride a trail on than a wheel on its own!

Go buy a (cheap!) bike!

I guess that Planet X picked up a load of cheap Euro surplus stock.

I just logged in o wiggle to see that my gold discount had been upped to 10% so picked up the Vitus Nucleus for £450, happy with that!
