Got a weekend with some friends in Sheffield planned in a couple of weeks, and weather permitting we'd like to include a 50ish mile road ride. Any one have any recommednations?
I've searched some of the popular sportives in the peaks and all the routes seem to start 10/15 miles away from the centre of Sheffield. Maybe a Sheffield local can point me in the direction of a 50 mile gpx starting central?
I've considered planning my own but with so much to choose from round there i'll probably end up missing it all!
Loads of options. Where in the centre are you starting from? I’m assuming you’re thinking Peak and a few hills?
I would be heading out Balterstone/High Bradfield way for quieter roads. Other than that it’s really busy every where, apart from the southern peak which has quieter roads
Can't do you a GPX but something like:-
Ringinglow Road, under Stanage, New Road down to Yorkshire Bridge, back lane to Thornhill, Hope, Edale, Mam Nick, round past the top of Cavedale to Perryfoot, Peak Forest, Wormhill, down to Millers Dale, Taddington, up to Flagg Lane and along the top and down to Bakewell, then could either head straghtish back via Hassop and Calver; or go up the golfcourse, Pilsley, Chatsworth, up Beeley Moor then across the top back to Sheff.
We've got a place in Crookes so will be starting from there. Would like to include a few big(ish) climbs.
From Crookes I would recommend heading to Rivelin Valley Road, then cutting up towards Loxley. Then to High Bradfield, after which you could go north towards Penistone for quieter roads (although avoid the horrific A616 Stocksbridge bypass at all costs) or go south along Strines to either extend the ride into the Hope Valley area, or head back in towards Sheffield.
The roads around Bradfield are lovely, the other roads can be fine if they aren't too busy.
Ooh, I should have mentioned, some of the "100 greatest road climbs" are in the area too.
My favourite 50 miler from there would head out through Loxley, Damflask, Slugworths, A57 to Ladybower, Bamford, Hathersage, Abney, Cressbrook, Monsal Head, Longstone Edge, Eyam, Gridleford, Ringinglow, home.
Was bored on a conference call - here's a GPX of GHill's route from Crookes. It'll be a grand day out with a fair bit of up.

Lots of options to shorten/lengthen as needed. Apart from the main roads, it's all good.
nowt wrong with GPS above but as I'm bored waiting outside teenage antigees ice hockey training here's a gpx that sort of does riklegges route ? Strines north (the hard way?) Jackson bridge climb from Simon Warrens book quiet roads back above Stocksbridge ....pub at High Bradfield?

Can you not create your own GPX based on the info provided?
I use the Ordnance Survey but there are numerous alternatives.
My choice would be to avoid the main Hathersage -> Castleton drag ... too busy for sure!
Actually you probably don't even need a GPX route, something like the following would include a few climbs and avoid traffic (although Mortimer Road is becoming busier these days since it was re-surfaced):
Some of this has been mentioned above but anyhoo ...
Crookes -> Malin Bridge
Malin Bridge -> Low Bradfield via Loxley
Low Bradfield -> High Bradfield/Old Horns Pub(fairly steep climb)
High Bradfield -> Ewden Bank (inc fairly steep climb)
Ewden Bank - Upper Midhope
Upper Midhope - Midhopestones
Midhopestones - Strines via Mortimer Road
Strines -> Ladybower
Ladybower -> Long Causeway/Stanage Edge (via Yorkshire Bridge and then up 'New Road')
Stanage Edge -> Ringinglow /Norfolk Arms via 'The Dale'
Norfolk Arms -> Crookes via Fulwood Lane/Lodge Moor
If you want to do the Stocksbridge climb (listed in Simon Warren's 100 Hill Climbs book) then detour to Stocksbridge from Midhopstones.
Head to Fox Valley Shopping and then up Hunshelf Road to Pea Royd Lane. When you've done the hill sprint, head back through Stocksbridge to Bolsterstone and then climb back up to Mortimer Road via the top of Broomhead Reservoir
*Edit* ... actually sturmeyarcher's GPX covers much of the route I mentioned, whereas ghill's suggestion covers more of the Hope Valley Area heading into the White Peak
I could/would have done if @sturmeyarcher and @antigee had not been massive legends. Both those routes look great guys, thanks so much. They'll both get ridden, one the weekend in question and i'll go back and do other soon after.
