just had a look through the 50 bike fresh goods thing. in all my days, i have never seen a uglier pile of steel/alloy/plastic.
fs bikes are dog awful nowadays, some are so ugly i can not even look at them, let alone buy one.
i am loathe to say, the best looking is the silver orange.
on the hardtail front, the raised chainstay things win the ugly prize.
my faves are the singular, the big brother and the carbon canyon.
oh, and the frankenbike that is the jones+
but seriously, there are some dreadful looking bikes about. are all the desingers pished or stoned....... 😀
You see I would say that looks amazing, although the tyres are too narrow
Alot of odd lookers.. bent down tubes / long top tubes.
The stanton sherpa ti looks ace.

As the reviewer, I agree 😀
It's a great bike, but 2.3 DHFs are shit as soon as it gets muddy.
Long, low and slack must be nearly at its peak?
It's starting to get a bit ridiculous imo.
The salsa Wood Smoke was the only one I thought looked really awful
Blimey, it's been a while since I've looked at anything outside my Roadie/CX bucket of shame.
The "50 best" is obvz a euphemism for "butt ugly, slack jawed redneck sniffers" for sure the only bikes in that lot that resemble anything "good looking" are the Canyon Exeed, Niners Air9 and just creeping in is the Trek Caliber. I'm inclined to add the Santa Cruz "another thingumybob" and oddly the Canyon Strive (that's it's name riiight??) Whilst the last two are formed for function, admirable since going pootling down trail centres is the only riding these bikes do, sans peddling effort, the world of MTB is just short of paired inspiration. Of the most usable bikes in the list, that would suit 98% of riders with capability of wheezing off road for an hour are the first three I picked out. Simple, light, singletrack burners that will leave the rider gasping for breath and an ice cream to cool burning quads.
It's a sad fact of this 21st century that we have yoofs just out of CAD skool designing play toys for the bimblers.
There is no passion, just degrees of inclination.
Am I the only one who doesn't care what a bike looks like?
If I'm riding it, I'm sitting on it, I can't see it and I'm looking at the mountains anyway and if I'm not riding it it's slung in the garage.
How it looks is utterly irrelevant compared to how it rides.
+1
It's the fascination with curved or bent tubes that ruins them IMO. Same thing has happened in the road world but to a lesser extent. That's why the Canyon Exceed was the only one that I liked, as it manages to connect things together with straight tubes.

'Best' performance wise =/= best looking, you must have lost your way to the beauty pageant.

this for me. Went to the NEC show with a compo payout burning a hole in my pocket, went from

and having spent a day at the NEC show I came away thinking 90% of FS bikes look the same (27.5 wheels, short stem, radically sloping top tube, either 4-bar or top-tube mounted swing link) and couldn't recall the difference between a Nukeproof, Transition or any one of a dozen other brands that all blended into one

Still shopping, but it's still for a roadie. The only MTB I've seen recently that's made me reconsider where I spent my cash is the Canyon Dude, as I have a cheapo Wazoo and a soft spot for fat bikes - as well as the ride they look like how a 7yr old would draw a bike i.e. right!
