Hi, years ago I bought a box of jagwire shift cable outer. It's lasted 10 years ish.

Back on eBay to buy some replacement and it's 4mm or 5mm.

Which is better? I run Shimano across road, MTB and gravel bikes.

Thanks!

50m seems like a lot to get through. You sure you're not gonna be stuck with that when Shimano launch Deore Di3 and everyone moves to electric?

The 4mm version is their "premium" option. Just make sure to get it in the solid colours, the braided versions are thicker and need specific ferrules.

Same applies to their compression less brake outer, and the various 3rd parties that sell the same (or very similar) stuff. The "braided" versions often add nothing other than a cosmetic layer and then you end up having to shim them with pvc tape to fit oversized ferrules because nothing you have fits.

Thanks!

50m has lasted me 10 ish years. So no not sure.

Surely I won't have wireless gears on every bike... I'm too tight for that 😜

@thisisnotaspoon

I've had some of the braided stuff. It was as annoying as you describe!

You could do as others have and sell some by the meter to  fellow STWers 🙂

I've just checked the reel and it was 30m that's lasted 10 years and it was 4mm.

I might give the 50m reel a miss!

Still working my way through a 4l bottle of finish line lube I bought many many years ago.  It has long since paid for itself and I've given a lot away but there is still a lot left
