He nailed those👍

Did you push up or take the uplift?  Did the day run smoothly?

Push up.

Uplift was operating but I'm still not ready for uplift personally but it looked smooth enough. Place was what I'd call quiet which may have helped there.

Yeah, I’m a bit twitchy about getting in an uplift van.  417 isn’t a bad ride up though

Well worth another trip when you're ready for uplift.
Although it sounds weird one of the best things is how quick it is up and down so you can effectively session a whole run.
With the progressive build style that means you can add in new features each run (maybe swapping over a bit) until you nail it top to bottom.

Nice jumps!

He only turned 12 a few weeks ago so he's fearless and light, he flies well.
Thanks for the compliment

Lol at ride

😀 ride or push, it’s short enough you don’t lose the will after a couple of runs

It’s not that fun to ride up tbh - I tend to ride the first bit, a short section in the middle and the final bit. The 2 steeper / looser bits I find you can just about ride them but it isn’t worth the effort required - so I just push!

Yes

Well, not completely new to ever sitting on a bike. But 5-6 year old kids get down it.

Yes, totally beginner friendly. It’s downsides are not much elevation and not many trails but for me it’s a fair bit closer than wales, is plenty fun for a day and the uplift has always been efficient with great staff.

Ah wicked a mate went recently but he used the uplift and said its Max of either 6 or 9 only (can’t Remember which) but like you I’m not ready to risk uplift and price seemed steep for amount of line choices. How would we complete the push up to the likes of BPW? I’m fit enough to not care but my OH isn’t so want to consider his enjoyment factor.

I think their uplift price is way too much. It's about a 10min ride/push up so dead easy.
I've also noticed (last year) that the queue for uplift was so long that I could push up & ride down twice before the back of the queue had got their uplift! Not saying this is always the case but makes me chuckle when it happens.

At BPW,the ride up is prob 40mins of effort. Here... use the ride up to build fitness & still enjoy plenty of runs down.

Push-up at 417 isn’t that long as the hill isn’t huge. BPW push up is much longer / much worse although if you session the top half for a while and then the bottom half it doesn’t feel so bad.

You’ll get a lot more full runs in at 417 but they’re not that long.

The 2 blues are both very beginner friendly - the newest one is very flowy / bermy with a small rollable table ish thing near the top. The older blue is longer and has more jumps but they’re all pretty mellow and tables.

The reds are a big step up I’d say (whilst still not actually being difficult for a reasonable rider). One is a big jump line with step takeoffs on the tables (and gap lines alongside the tables) and it’s quite fast / rough but everything is rollable. 2 sort of drops but you can probably roll them I’d imagine.

The other red has quite a steep chute down near the beginning of it that a lot of beginners wouldn’t fancy - then it splits into a few lines - 1 has loads of drops just for the sake of drops - another has really banked and quite sharp downhill corners. I think there’s a black option you can take but I forget what’s different about that.

There’s one black run but it doesn’t compare to a black at say BPW or Antur Stiniog - it’s got one sharp chute near the start that got a few really narrow ruts for tyres to go in - I’ve done it a couple of times in the dry but I’m the wet it’s a proper quagmire.

There’s a 4x track and dual slalom bit to play on too.

The push up path isn't that brutal, unless it's wet as it always seemed too slippy to get up with a pair of 5/10s, uplift is nice, but not that much there to justify a full day and way too costly.

You're aware it's a business and has to make money, not just make people smile

There's also such a thing as value for money. £35 for uplift when you can walk it in 10 is too much.
I don't mind paying for services when I can see/feel the value.

BPW uplift price is just about tolerable but I do appreciate what I get for my money. 417 uplift... Not for me.

I'm all for supporting businesses where possible during covid. But these prices applied way before this pandemic.

Also, nice jumps! How do kids make it look so easy??
I've sessioned those tables before & still know I'm nowhere near clearing them!

If it’s still £35 for a days uplift I think that’s ok really. When BPW was the same price it made Flyup seem expensive - but BPW has gone up quite a lot (even before the Covid surcharge).

At Flyup you’ve got less trails to play on granted - but there is the 4x and dual slalom bits. I think what they should do is include the indoor pump track and dirt jumps in that price rather than layering that as an extra charge on top.

You are allowed to go back up, its not for a single trip.
We easily get 20 runs in a day so its quite cheap per run and no way are you walking it in 10 mins.

You haven't been for a while have you? Significantly more black...

The 10yr old has done the big drop off the big part on "the black" at Antur and more or less everything at Dyfi and Revs but hasn't done the 40' gap at 417 yet. (Though it was closed due to weather when we were there last)

The best thing at 417 is to session whole runs... even the blue is designed so a very good rider can double most of the jumps whilst a beginner can roll them so you can work your way feature by feature. If you use it like that then I've never failed to progress something.
If you try and "use it" like many do BPW and collect photos of "I did this" then you'll be disappointed... we have spent a whole day doing 15+ runs on a single trail and progressing with a few breaks doing some alternate trails.

It's a great day for us but nothing like BPW ... (and I don't think it's meant to be)..
We progress then go elsewhere and apply the skills and experience .. then go back and progress again.

I really like it, as above the point of the uplift here is volume rather than speed, I can get up the pushup reasonably fast (though, not 10 minutes!) but it's still time and energy spent that you can use going downwards. Similar to the FOD or Innerleithen in that regard.

Also, the burgers!

I mean, the shortcomings of the place are also obvious compared to some of the other uplift venues not so far away, but it's good fun, and it doesn't have to be a competition I'd always rather go to FOD or BMCC and probably BPW but put em all together and you've got a great mix of different flavours of trail.

And then there's the burgers!
