The QR Shimano MT15s and Fox Vanilla L fork I currently have on my 456 Evo are startung to feel a bit noodly on the rough stuff so I'm looking to upgrade both.

My budget is £400 total, if I can get away with that. What're my options?

Cheap but burly Superstar wheels and a cheap Sektor found online somewhere?

2nd hand Revelations and a pre-loved Hope Pro II build?

What else should I be considering? What gets me the best bang for my buck?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Brand new Sektor, see if you can find one of the coil sprung models for the plush feel that air forks are just starting to get right, it will be more reliable too. £250 should do it.

On-One Reet'ard wheelset for £100 or Superstar build for £150, they're getting rid of loads of their 26 inch wheels at the moment so it's a good time to buy.

Both fork and wheels will be brand new and shouldn't give you any problems.

(Still running my Sektor fork and Reet'ard wheels on a Ragley Piglet after they did the job on a 456-evo for 18 months)

I've a set of 15mm front SRAM X9 QR SRAM X7 hubbed Reet 'ard wheels for sale for £65. Bombproof build and not too heavy. For forks I'd be looking at new Rev's from the continent. £230 IIRC.

Barfly's wheels are the same as what came on my 456-evo, i believe the Reet'ard wheelset now has cheaper generic hubs so i'd snap up the older ones with decent SRAM hubs, the hubs are bombproof and have easily replaceable cartridge bearings.

...i'd still get a coil sprung Sektor though!

Yeah the new Reet 'ards have cheapo hubs on them. Mine had new bearings in the front around April and they were on my second bike so haven't really been used more than 3-4 times since.

I've never got on with the coil Sektors I have, I don't suit the spring that's fitted and it's a lot of hassle compared to air forks to change it!

Murdered out on a straight steerer though....

Don't meant to hijack but I've got some 150mm revs - specialised oem ones from a 2013 stumpy Evo, so basic RL model but modded up to give three levels of compression damping (basically a CTD setting) and badged as an rC3

20mm axle and tapered steerer - about 200mm. Recently serviced and seals changed

Black but with a yellow decal (that can be removed and replaced)

Clean stanchions and a small chip on the lower....looking for 230 if you're interested

Otherwise feel free to delete / ignore this post.

TMB467 Tapered steerer is no good for a 456 Evo!

Superstar built crests and Sektor Coil Dual Position have been excellent on my C456.

The other week superstar had the Pacenti TL28 wheels for £150, they are supposed to be excellent.

I've some parts from an aborted bike build:

Sektor RL forks used for a few months £100
Relation RLT-Ti forks, same as above £180

A brand new wheelset that I built then enver used. Pro/II hubs, Sunn XLrater rims, DT double butted spokes, £200 (the cost of the hubs, not including £100 worht of rims and £40 of spokes! No offers otherwise they're being dissmantled and going into my 29er instead).

Hope XC rear wheel, generic 20mm or Bulb front I can't rememmber which I've already sold, Mavic EN521 rims. About a years worth of use. £110

I went with a used Bos Deville 140 and a pair of new Superstar Switch Evos on Pacenti TL28 rims for the same budget on my Stanton. Early days, but initial impressions are that both are utterly fantastic.

As above, the superstar pacenti/switch wheels for 150 are doing well for me (iirc they came in a little lighter than described too!) Also, Planet x / on-one have got 20% off their wheels and tyres till tonight (code- ukbfwheels20 )
