Yes, I saw it and was impressed...

...but then noticed that they did it on trailer bikes. I don't want to be "that person", but we all know that there's a big difference between a child cycling solo and one that cycles it on a trailer bike. I mean, hell, there's a big difference between doing it solo or doing it in a group! I'm going to be brutal and say that it doesn't count, or, at least, is a category of its own for assisted riders. This lad was going for the record at age 12 and, honestly, I think this is more impressive than a 4yo on a trailer bike.

Sorry for being an old misery guts and well done to the family for completing the ride regardless - a great achievement, however you do it!

I think you might have managed to be though.

Trailer or not it's very impressive for a four year old, I have no doubt neither of my kids would even consider the idea of letting me tow them from one end of the country to the other...

It sounds like a great expedition for the kids, but why not just enjoy it privately as a cycling holiday? I think publicising it as a "record" with a four year old is a bit dubious. At four years old you are just having fun on your bike, and the idea of setting records is all about the parents. Someone is probably already putting a three year old on a training programme for next year...

What a load of utter crap. So two adults have done lejog with kids as cargo. Amazeballs. Next they'll be telling us about this amazing prodigy that can ride a bicycle aged 18 months (with stabilisers)

Just to be clear, it's the reporting I have an issue with. If the parents want to take the kids cycling then go ahead. Just don't write it up as something it isn't.

I agree with daern,  they were towed all the way, interspersed with social media limelight hogging posts about how all drivers are dicks etc etc etc.

agree not a record bit pretty impressive how they kept their kids restrained for that long.  some sort of child cruelty?

maximum I can do with my 3yr old is about an hour and that's with a run around like a crazy thing break half way

Perhaps they were just bored out of their little minds and just decided to hang on.

I actually saw them all while I was out on a ride, made a massive point of waving and saying hello really quite loudly. Kids looked bored

Yeah, I know :-/

My point was that by claiming a "youngest rider" record for a trailer bike, are they not denying a young, solo cyclist of a their own record, achieved under their own steam?

To be honest, I don't have a problem with people taking kids on adventures or giving them cool experiences (my 9yo son and I rode 250 miles from Newcastle to Edinburgh over the summer and had a great time), but trying to convince people that they've done something they haven't - well, I'm afraid I consider it a bit of a disservice to the kids and disrespectful to those that have done it under their own steam.

My son and I were thinking about doing LEJOG next year as I don't think many younger kids have done it. And he'll ride properly, on his own bike...and I'll force him to do at least 75% of it in the wind too, so he gets the full, miserable experience 🙂
