Heading up there after Ardrock and Scarborough / Whit,by after overnight stops in a van and 2 routes to include a bivvy out on the coast does not have to be far as I will have my daughter will be heading to Glentress on the way back to the lakes!
Not got a clue about Northumbria but I hear its good so any info glad accepted good pubs needed to for meals

So many choices... Ok, my recommended spots along the coast going south to north would be:
Amble (good for fish and chips) Warkworth - many pubs, Alnmouth. Craster Dunstanburgh - Embleton and Newton by the sea - great pub in the last one right by the lovely beach. Then you've got Beadnell and Seahouses - both a bit daytrippy but ok. Next up, Bamburgh and Budle - both terrific beaches. North of there is Lindisfarne which is worth a pedal over but don't get trapped by the tide...

There's really loads of places, I'm not sure about bivvy spots particularly and a lot of the coastline is NT / AONB so unsure about camping restrictions bit you can check.

If you want to head inland to the hills then you could aim for Wooler and Rothbury as bases. Happy to throw some more suggestions out if you need.

Northumberland is awful, don't bother. And if you do come up don't tell folk down south.
Going through it on the train as I type and the coastline is so beautiful....

Actually, these lads are right. I've massively over sold it and forgot to mention that it's Puffin migration season when they come inland and feast on unsuspecting visitors. Like a swarm of clumsy airborne piranhas.

Try The Hope & Anchor (pronounced lurcally as The Hurp & Anka) in Alnmouth, they 'used'* to have the best prroppa chips in the UK.

* they may still have.

Or The Sun Inn or The Red Lion. 😆

Cheers guys had some info from some of my wednesday night mob and a few of the places above cropped up would be quite happy to get cut off by the tide @ Lindisfarne 🙂

Cool. Unfortunately the castle at Lindisfarne is currently wrapped in plastic and scaffolding while it's being repaired or turned into holiday apartments or something.
Still worth a visit, you might find some good coastal bivvy spots to the north and south of Lindisfarne at Goswick and Elwick... but don't quote me.

No camping signs in all the beach carparks which were free but we tried to book on two campsites who only had spaces in the no kids bit!!!
Stayed in Amble on the coast near a big posh caravan park no issues even had a dog walker telling is to ignore the no camping signs. Had a bivi out as in the pic then stayed in this car park had a class sunrise with a pod well 3 dolphins to enjoy after a full day on the beach with food at the castle pub in Bamburgh

Apparently Lindisfare Castle is 450 years old and so in need of some restoration, see here if your are interested,

Sorry Rich, you'll have to revisit next year to get a closer look, enjoy the coast.

Popped into Lindisfarne was not overly impressed very crowded and expensive for a pint and a pack of crisps, but getting a freebie parking ticket on the way in took the edge off the price of the pint!

Keep the pics coming. Great spot.

Good to get the tides right if you've got a camper and get cut off on lindisfarne - go over just as everyone else is leaving, park in the big car park and watch everyone leave, go for a walk, back to the van for a cuppa/ lunch and watch the wildlife take over again! Great to have the place almost to your selves.
