I'm thinking about upgrading to the XX1 1x11 system but the costs are pretty high..

would it be possible to use the shifter, deraileur, cassette and chain from the XX1 1x11 system with a standard x0 3x10 crank..?

Ideally I want to remove the front mech, shifter and outer rings to leave me with the middle ring(possible change that to a thick thin 32t ring)and also fit a bash ring..

Yep - that will work fine. Get a Works Components GXP direct mount ring too and gain the thick/thin security, and also save a little bit of weight.

Superb.. that could save me a hunk of cash for the time being 🙂

Can you get the direct mount rings in the UK or do you have to order them from the US? I'm guessing thats the ones you are talking about..

The chainset is about the cheapest part of the groups set, doesn't save you all that much.

Absolute Black also do GXP direct mount rings and might be easier to get hold of in the UK.

Than the Works Components ones? They're made in Cannock.

Sorry, that was in reference to the wolftooth suggestion.

The AB ones were of questionable use anyway with regards to chain retention - I'd use the Works ones.

Or like I say, sell the X.0 chainset and get the XX1 one.

What are the poor AB experiences you've come across Nick? I have mixed feelings about them but it seems to do the job

The X0/X01/XX1 crank arms are supposedly all the same anyway, the spiders are all interchangeable between them also so there is no point in selling one to replace it with another.

Just get one of the generic fat/thin chainrings, standard 104BCD and put it in the position of the middle ring on the cranks you have.

xo1 chainring on 3x10 xo

no problems at all

[img] [/img]

the xo1 ring needs slighty filing as the middle ring on the xo crank is smaller, hard to describe thou sorry.

My AB wore very quickly, although it did see hard use all season. After a month or so it definitely lost some effectiveness. Alloy seems very soft and I ripped 3 teeth clean off in the last race of the season in a badly timed rock strike. May have been the soft alloy, may just have been me, but the Works one definitely seems harder.

No first hand experience, but a friend found he was losing the chain regularly, and reverted to a chain guide, and there was a thread on here, where the owner of AB was being very cryptic about their designs. Either their direct mount or their 104mm BCD rings (I forget) aren't actually narrow/wide, but we're being talked about as if they were. Put me off sadly.

for simplicity.. I would probably just get a raceface thick-thin chainring.. that would allow me to stick on a bashguard as well...

The AB direct mount GXP rings aren't narrow/wide, something they don't make very clear on their website.

That's it, and Marcin was on here saying they didn't need to be, they work exactly the same, something I've seen isn't the case!

Shame really, as sure it was just a misunderstanding, just don't think he presented his case well.
