I bought a second-hand good condition RockShox 35 Gold fork -Â it's a 29-inch, 150mm travel model. I wanted to reduce the travel to 100mm to fit my town ebike after the bushing on my Recons delaminatd having done 13k odd miles. I purchased Solo Air travel spacers and added 50mm of spacers to the air spring, along with the existing 10mm spacer, for a total of 60mm. I verified this with my verniers. All seemed well, and I thought I had done a good job.
However, after installing the fork on the bike, the front end felt a little high. I measured the axle-to-crown length and got approximately 535mm, which corresponds to the 120mm travel variant. The stanchions also measure about 120mm. Additionally, I noticed that with no air pressure, I can compress the fork fully. This is different from my other RockShox forks, which stop just shy of full compression. To say I'm confused is an understatement. I've taken the fork apart again and verified that all parts are present on the air shaft as per manual.Â
Done a Google and there are a few instances of other people having such issues but no one has worked out why. I've emailed SRAM tech to see what they say.
In the meantime I've added an additional 20mm spacers and it's sitting perfectly at 100mm and the correct axle to crown measurement. Bizarre.Â
Anyone have an idea?
