getting a new Xt cassette and spotted a saving of £4 if I go for the 32.

Whats the pros and cons of of each?

Also does anyone know if you can fit a shimano freehub on a Sun Ringle DiscJockey rear hub?

cheers

Using a 34t will generate lots of macho comments on here!
However, I run one and found the lower ratio really useful - infact I don't think Ive used the front granny ring since running a 34t rear.

34t and take off the granny ring to save weight...... if you want to be a bit niche

do you ever run out of gears climbing?
34 if you do
32 if you dont

a vote for 32 here

who cares, you can find another gear combo which does exactly the same ration. if you need 34 and granny you should be walking

I run a 36t front ring, and uses a 11-34 cassette. I rarely dip into granny, but had to the other night heading up Ben Cleuch. That climb is brutal and sustained.

The cassette will fit on your Ringle hub no problem.

sounds like a 32 to me.

running 2 plus bash upfront so dropping the granny might be a bit drastic.

TW - I know the cassette will fit, its the freehub I want to change, £50 for a ringle one or £28 for a shimano if it works. Cheers for your input though

cheers

Looks like coleman was right. Personally I would (and do) go for 32 lighter weight and closer ratios. Sometimes tho on the really steep long hills (walna scar, fremy edge, gatesgarth) I've really wished I'd gone for 34 but those kind of climbs are few and far between and yes if it gets to 22x34 you'd use less time and energy pushing but if you *must* clean stuff the 34 could make the difference.

I train using a 32 and then race enduros with a 34 - extra weight but when tired those extra 2 teeth can make a difference.

I have a 34 cassette and I find that middle ring and 34 is a nice steady climbing ratio.

Otherwise who gives a crap nob ends who go around counting gear ratios deserve a slap and anyone who gets off and walks up anything short of a vertical wall needs another slap its called mountain biking not getting off and pushing biking

34. If you've never needed 22-34 then you haven't been riding steep enough hills.

its called mountain biking not getting off and pushing biking

If you want to walk you should`ve taken the 4 legged best friend, not the 2 wheeled one!

For those unfamiliar with the concept, this is called humour

PS im a downhiller, but i think its hilarious how defensive some of you are!

I see no pleasure in pedling very slowly up a hill, but if you do go for it! but 22-34 is bearly moving

A 22/34 gear ratio at 80 pedal revs per minute gives a speed of 4 mph

A 22/32 gear ratio at 80 pedal revs per minute gives a speed of 4.3 mph

The reason your bearly (sic) moving is because your not pedalling fast enough

Whatever suits your riding. I use 32.

If you're climbing hills all day then sure a 34 will help.
