My 12 speed XT kit has arrived but not the chain ring.
I'm going to go from 32 to 34T so how much chain should I add on so when the 34t arrives I can just swap them over?

Probably zero. The system should have enough tolerance to accommodate a 2T difference in chain rings.
If it didn't then you would only need a single link

It's one link (or a half link depending on your terminology) so it'll be the same or one pair more depending how tight it is already.
