Hi all, I've not bought any new mtb wheels since I got 26" xc717 on hope was the default choice for trail riding. Now I'm new FS trail bike building and I've gone for a 29er.

I want to run 2.3 possibly up to 2.6 tyres and see that 30mm rims are the fashion now for supporting wide tyres.

Frameset is 15x110 boost front and 12 x 142edit 148 boost rear, it seems sensible to run true boost hubs not spaced out hubs.

I built Novatec hubs up for my gravel bike, not as nice as the aforementioned Hopes but I'm happy with them so far. Limited budget this time so looking at £200 budget so like the idea of Novatec again, certainly seems to be plenty of them about and spares.

So where I'm at now is either:

Nukeproof Neutron wheelset from CRC £175
These look to be WTB 29mm rims on novatec hubs.
I would need to buy a novatec xd driver (+£30) sell HG freehub (-£15)
2.2kg inc tapes and valves
Total probably £190

Or
Kinlin TL-29 rims (£40 each) 30mm internal 35mm external
Novatec boost hubs from aliexpresss (£75)
ACI DB spokes £30
Total £185 but I would then have to go build them and buy tapes and valves
Estimate 2.1kg inc tapes and valves

For me to faff with building the Kinlin rims would have to be a chunk better, I'm not convinced it will be worth the hassle of build (+lack of warranty for what its worth) for the sake of an estimated ~100g.

Any other options out there? I'm open to used if it gets me hope hubs and lighter weight (impossible?) but it seems 30mm 29er boost wheels are the new kid on the block so not many for sale.

Cheers.

The closest I can see to buy are the Superstar £100 wheelsets (only have 25mm internal left though). They are on Novatec hubs though.

Just thought it might be worth a mention, boost is 12x148 (just in case you order in error :)).

12 x 142 boost rear

I'm sure you meant to type 148x12 boost, but flagging just in case yr frame is actually non-boost and you've not realised.

If you could live with a Shimano freehub I'm shortly to list an unused pair of DT Swiss E1900 boost wheels with 30mm internal rims, comfortably under £200 I'm sure.

Check your rear spacing. Boost is 148mm not 142...

Sure I'd be interested if you can let me know an asking price. I already have the cassette etc so was going to stay XD ideally.

According to this https://www.dtswiss.com/en/support/conversion-charts/rotor-kits-mtb-sram-xd/ I would need a HWYAAM00S3909S which is £60 delivered from holland bike shop. Maybe I'd get £30 back for the old HG freehub off someone.

So as far as I can see they are just over 2.1kg the pair so same weights, but would they be a better quality rim and hub than either of the options I listed?

Yeah I saw some wider ones there about a month or 2 back and though hmmm those are cheap but everything else hadn't come together yet, dammit!

I'm also looking for some slightly lighter wheels..

Is that RCZ shop legit? The prices look 'too good to be true' which makes me inherently suspicious!

I've heard about them before, just signed up to their newsletter as said and the prices get better.

But I heard they are ex-tax, so you will need to add vat and shipping. I've never bought anything (yet).

They are, I bought this the other week: http://www.rczbikeshop.com/default/x-fusion-rear-shock-o2-rl-air-200x48mm-black-green.html

Probably took best part of a week before I got a DPD shipping notification. No other communication, but hey ho, it arrived.

Of course, when I opened the box I realised it was the wrong shock, my own stupid fault for not looking at the pictures properly (yoke shock, bah).
