Fairly boring, but i don't really want to have to drop £12-15 on a tool i'll use once in a while. e.g. Park Tool flat socket
Any other decent options out there for poping out the charger damper on my Pike?

If you;re careful you can get away with a convetional (non-flush) socket. I've managed but you doo need to take a little extra care.

Alternatively if you have a angle grinder, or even a file and some elbow grease, then take a normal socket and take the radius off.

An adjustable wrench does the job - they're not done up particularly tight.

Some impact sockets are flat, or just file a cheap one down.

'tis the proper tool for the job though. How much is a new charger damper unit?

Normal non flush socket works perfectly fine as has been said before. if you're really fussy then find someone with a bench grinder and grind it flat. Got mine from Halfords for about a fiver I think.

I just used a normal socket and had no problems at all. Just take some care and all will be fine.

Yup, likewise normal socket is fine as long as you're careful. Possibly some sockets aren't fine but I've never found one.

Adjustable spanner will do it too as frogstomp says. Basically all the flush tool is, is a little bit of insurance.

Thanks all, I have a decent adjustable spanner that I'll try. Bleed kit comes today so I'll give it a go over the weekend

Just about to change the damper on my Pikes for a Charger 2 unit, once I've got a 30mm socket! Once I have removed the top cap and the lower circlip will the damper come out through the top as one unit or in separate parts top and bottom? I can see the new Charger 2 is all one unit.

Mine was very tight, used an adjustable and made a mess, went to bandq and bought a socket for £2.25 that did the job.

Flat 6 sided socket, if you slip it’ll be a mess of a pricey damper tip cap..

I've got one of these for installing Fox air tokens. They work pretty well too.
