Hi all,

I tried searching, but couldn't find the answer through 1 minute on google, and everyone on here loves showing what they know 🙂

I have a bike with XT 3x10 on it. I want to go 2x10 - do I keep the FD and shifter, or do I need to change them? I'll change the chainset.

I see on the new stuff there is an option to switch from 2 to 3 shifts on the front mech, but does it really matter? If I just use the bottom two shifts, then the mech adjustment will stop me using the 3rd, and everything is good. There shifts are all the same distance, aren't they?

Just change the chainset. I run 2 rings on XTR M970 and only bothered to change the rings. Shifts absolutely fine, but a little bit of fiddling required with the front mech to make it work great.

what do you mean by fiddling? If you just mean adjustment, then that's fine, and what I'd expect. Or do you mean more extreme fiddling, like bending cages, changing cable anchor positions, etc?
