Hi all,

I tried searching, but couldn't find the answer through 1 minute on google, and everyone on here loves showing what they know 🙂

I have a bike with XT 3x10 on it. I want to go 2x10 - do I keep the FD and shifter, or do I need to change them? I'll change the chainset.

I see on the new stuff there is an option to switch from 2 to 3 shifts on the front mech, but does it really matter? If I just use the bottom two shifts, then the mech adjustment will stop me using the 3rd, and everything is good. There shifts are all the same distance, aren't they?

All you need to do is take a chainring off and adjust the mech.

that's what I thought. And no idea why it posted twice...

I just couldn't understand why there was a need for specific 2x10 front shifters.

As for the chainrings, I want 2x10 specific, as I want the something like a 28/38 or thereabouts. I never use the 22 at the mo, and rarely use the outer....hmmm, maybe I should go 1x10

I have a Truvativ 24/36 setup front and just windin the adjustment screw to stop it going into granny. However the new 2x10 speed mechs must be more advanced than that - do they have specific springs to lighten the shift maybe? Also would a 9 speed chain still fit through a 10 speed front mech or have they made it narrower?

a bash guard will stop it moving past middle ring too, but adjust screws too...
