Hi all,
Thinking of building up my latest (Genesis Core) frame as a 2x10. Will a standard XT/SLX mech handle it or does it need to be dual-specific?
Ditto shifters - I've heard SLX at least can be modded to run a dual chainset.
Wondering if a triple can be used by just setting the travel screws? Sounds too easy though...

Any help gratefully received!
Cheers

Should all be fine. All you need to do is wind in the top adjustor on the front mech. Well thats all I have ever done and I have never had a problem.

Specific 2x9/10 front mechs might work better but it is unnecessary if you already have a mech.

As achey said, also fit your mech down a bit lower to have a closer fit against the rings/bash.

If you don't have a chain device and ride rougher ground or jump I thoroughly recommend one. The big ring helps keep the chain in place on the middle, which a bash can replace. But being smaller than a 44t means it can still wang off, especially on a HT. A stinger or similar will help this.

It's great having the clearance, I don't miss the big ring once I'm at the woods.

mech should work OK with double set up,

Not sure about the SLX shifters unless the new ones (2013?) have changed, think you can only get them in double or triple LH.

If you get XT/XTR the shifters got a little screw/switch that can change the shifter from a double set up to a triple (and back)so if you feel the need to go back to a triple (riding some where hilly) it can be done.
