You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've bought a Spearfish (split pivot) frame for long distance non technical eg Manx 100 in a bit more comfort next year and bumpier 12hr races.
Can't use a triple on it. 1x10 doesn't hack it on the long distance stuff (I don't want to go to XX1 as I have xtr shifters, mechs, cassettes etc and I really needed 24 36 or similar on Manx hills)
So I need to go 2x10 but am a bit worried about the gap between big and small rings. Standard low ratio is 26 38 - the 26 is too tall for major climbing (read 4000m in a day), too low for racing and the 38 is too tall for racing (as in I'd either be right up the top of the cassette or changing all the time).
So my plan was to double (no bash just the KCNC bolt kit) my XTR M980 triple and use a 34 or 36t middleburn middle ring keeping the 3x front mech which is limited. Not sure what changing is like or how good the middleburn rings are.
24 36 2x factory options seem rare as hell. The mega bucks option is to go RF Next SL 22 36 this gives a further weight saving in that I can get away with a 34t cassette with a 22t front but it's mega money
FSA do a SK-K BB30 double that is 22 36 and half the price but I need to fit PF92 does this work?
Other thing to do is to go 26 38 man up on the hills (I will have an extra 10months of training) and change to 1x for racing.
Sram do an X7 22-36. mine runs on a Hope BB with a gxp adapter.
