Looking for (preferably) a frame and forks as I have 10 spd XT, XT brakes, bars etc. I know what wheels I want (DT EX1501) so that leaves me around £2K for 160mm frame and forks. I could get some 36's for around £800, leaving £1200 for a frame, or I could get some pikes and have around £1500.
If I could get the new Lyriks for Pike prices, I'd do that but that's along was off I think.
This bike needs to compliment the 150mm AM hardtail which will be used for the majority of trail type duties. I want something which can rip and uplift day but still pedal to the top.
I've seen a very reasonably priced Spicy frame, and the GT Sanction looks good value, but I worry about it being porky and GT don't seem to print lots of relevant geo numbers.
I could just get a spesh Enduro expert for £2800 and just sell everything. Not sure. Suggestions and tips/links to closeouts would be welcomed!

There are some excellent deals on Pygas at the moment. Not sure it's appropriate to link to our own site but you could have Lyriks and a Pascoe for your budget, which would make for a cracking bike.

Thanks Drover, it's only 140, and has a little steep HA. looks like a great trail bike, but I'm after something with less pure intentions!

Reign on ebay - £1.6k full bike with a Pike.

Second hand? I'm selling a Zesty AM that'll take 160mm forks and it'll be way below budget….

I mailed the chap and it made me a bit nervous.
Ones you receive your bike we cancel ebay order.

So ones you "buy it now" I send you store details for direct payment to the store by card (no extra fee) or to store email address/paypal account - we need to get sale price net in this case. We offer free shipping.

He wouldn't give an email address either. He may well be totally legit, but I'd feel very stupid if I lost my money with messages like this.

Transition Patrol?

Think the Sanction would be the ultimate gnar machine though.

I looked at s reign from that link and got the exact same email with spelling mistakes and all.

I didn't buy one as it didn't feel right. I also thought about what I ride and went for a 140mm rear 150mm front bike.

The sanction is looking good. I was surprised to find that Dan Atherton runs 160mm fox 34's on his.

I also thought about what I ride and went for a 140mm rear 150mm front bike.

I had that internal conversation. I did have a sensible carbon Trail/AM Fs bike, but now I have a very capable HT which I love riding but I want something I can thrash on uplifts (with BPW, and 417 nearby seems mad not to) but still take out on a normal ride occasionally.
I looked at s reign from that link and got the exact same email with spelling mistakes and all.

I suspect we both dodged a bullet.

Don't be put off by the Sanction, it gets incredible reviews from all sources and at £1500 seems decent value when compared to some of the more boutique stuff that may cost another 1k again for the frame, I believe the Sanction can also take 170mm forks if you fancy going truly bonkers....a set of 160mm forks by anybody would do the job though....X-Fusion would probably give you more change to spend on other stuff but it looks like you've got that covered with XT just about everything from what you just posted!

I just need tyres, headset and new stem and I'm ready to go! Everything else remains from my sadly departed 26.
I failed to mention that I'm selling a brand new Bronson carbon frame to fund this. Taking a bloody low price for it though.

Does it have to be new? Bungalistic has a Rallon for sale in 16.5, it's the wrong colour (ie, not yellow) but he'd still get my money, £600 with a Kirk.

Does the fact that you're selling a Bronson frame with shock mean your warranty case had a successful conclusion?

Good shout on the Meta.

But I'd minus the BOS stuff, if you think SC have been a warranty challenge, BOS will redefine how bad a company can be when things go wrong.

Meta AM frame, second hand Float X, new Fox 34 on the front. Sorted.

Build a set of decent alloy rims onto some DT 240 hubs & that would be a great build 🙂

Should have figured that from the clue you have, having a 150mm hardtail I guess.

Although the Commencal is 150mm rear and only half a degree slacker than the Pyga with a 160mm fork (which is what works best). That said it's unbelievable value, and they are great bikes (we were a dealer before they went direct, and from what I know the bikes are even better now than they were then).

Transition Patrol would be my other recommendation which I think has already been mentioned. New ones land shortly...

I'm selling a new banshee spitfire in large with a double barrel air... £1100 posted 😀

In seriousness, banshee are well worth a look, a spitfire with a decent shock and 160mm forks is a great 'enduro' bike for uk stuff and can handle everything in it's stride.

The rune is also a great bike if you're after something with more travel and is probably as close as you can get to a pedalable dh bike, but it is a hefty beast.

Some great deals to be had on Rocky Mountain Altitudes on eBay, I paid £2200 for a brand new boxed Altitude 770MSL, sold/replaced all the bits I didn't want (avids, hubs etc) and had a fully Hope'd up Altitude for around £2500 all in.

EDIT - And the ride9 adjustable geometry is excellent 🙂

Carbon or aluminium? YT Capra still available in some specs, I reckon purely on bang for buck you'd do better with one of the German machines and swapping the bits out.

My canyon strive was 2400 with pikes a monarch and ex1501's it's a shame they stopped doing that spec. I reckon you could still do a strive on your budget but YT looks a bit cheaper like for like with the current euro rate. Not as exotic as you might want though!

That Rocky Mountain is nice too.. 🙂

I would buy a Giant Reign (and I have..). It's a monster of a bike. Reign 2 complete bike is currently £1760 from UK Giant stores. Sell all the kit you don't need, buy a CCDBCS for it, keep the Pikes it comes with, spend the leftover money on a trip to the Alps.

What's to sell? I'd be lucky to get tuppence for the giant branded wheelset and bits and I'd end up with a nice but basic alu frame and RC pikes. I really like the Reign but they don't stand out as amazing value.
The advanced team is nice, but XR 1501s? Why would a bike with those intentions want XC wheels?

My point was, with your budget you wouldn't need to sell much. There's still a good £300 there with wheels, tyres, dropper, drivetrain... You'd end up with a much better bike than the Commencal.

Great thread. I'm currently in a similar space. Have a 140 XL hardtail 29er that I'm very happy with. Been looking at frame/forks combos or complete bike for a long travel fs rig. Looked on the Giant store for the Reign 2 at £1760. Could only find a M at £2100. The Pyga looks nice as do the Banshees. Anyone got any thoughts on the Vitus Sommet for £1600? Good spec and they review very well too..

As I understand it they are essentially have improved 240s hubs and ex471 rims (which are fantastic). Seem perfect to me.

Mate has them on his Canyon and they have been great. Wheels have seen lots of Lakeland rock and been fine. Only problem was a crack around onme eyeley and I think that was caused by too much tension in the spokes when trying to true the wheel after a big rim dink.
They are very very light

Howdy - i bought and ex-demo spicy from CRC and the chain stays are wide but my heels don't rub on them - but i ride clipped in and pedal with straight feet.

If you ride flats with 5:10s then they may do.

If you do a shopping search on Google.de or .fr for a giant reign there should be bike reduced to 1999 euro, which is under 1500 pounds.

The Reigns are all reduced in Giant stores but, weirdly, Giant seem to want to keep it quiet and haven't reduced their prices on the website. If you search on the website it'll tell you which stores have them in stock and the bikes will be reduced in store.

I've just got a GT sanction and I'd say it would fit your requirements. It's absolutely solid yet if you pick one up you'd be shocked at how light it is. It feels lighter than smaller travel bikes I've owned.

That said depending on your height I would look at the Capra. If I wasn't so tall I probably would have got one.

Nah. I had a 5 spot previously. It was the nicest looking bike I have ever had but I just didn't love it. Just a bit too sensible.

Sanctions seem hard to come by in Large and the 2016's are a horrid flat fluoro yellow (I usually like louder colours but it looks really wrong) There are also no prices for them as yet much less availability. With the new X2 shock on it I'm expecting it to be expensive.
I can't live with the Capra builds. It's all SRAM and the E13 wheels are a no-no despite the amazing value. I'd only end up stripping it which seems ridiculous.

Orange Alpine 160? I ended up buying an ex demo, but was going to go frame only. Asking around I managed to get a frame and the upgraded float x and a custom colour for £1800. I imagine you could get a frame for £1600, maybe less, if you were happy going with the monarch and a standard colour...

GT Sanction was the other contender (already mentioned). Tweeks have a medium for £1274, but that may be too small.

Suppose you could also consider an Orange Five, which are less than the alpine.

If it helps at all, I also have a 150mm aggro hardtail, and bought the alpine to be able to do all day / big rides as well as uplifts. So far its managed all that just fine.

If he wants a small, he's in luck. Otherwise I can't help I'm afraid.
I scoured the internet and found one german shop with a large for euro4999, but they will only take paypal (which costs a few quid).

Oh, and (cheeky) if anyone is interested in the XX1 drivetrain and/or the XM1501 wheelset, give me a shout.

Cheers Wrecker he needs a medium though. I have been scouring the net too but cannot find a medium Advanced 0 Team anywhere. It looks great, please keep us posted on how you find it to ride. I must admit the Reign is one of the few bikes that would tempt me off my carbon Enduro 29er. I'd need an XL so would have to go hunting abroad as for some reason Giant UK don't bring in XL's!

Giant UK didn't bring in this bike either (in any size). I think that Giant france do have some mediums left, but not many shops advertise it discounted. I got a decent deal on this one.

I do see some of the 2016s advertised for sale in the UK so they have changed their minds on it.

I assume you've looked at the geometry? They are flippin huge!
This medium is bigger than a large nomad!

Yes for some reason Giant UK didn't bring the Advanced 0 Team in but did bring in the Reign Advanced 1 in that horrible green colour with 2x10 SLX!

You got a very good deal on yours. It would've been £5K+ if it had been officially imported into the UK.

I do love my XL Enduro (465mm reach) but due to my height/orangutan like build it still feels a bit short and I would love something a bit longer. The reach on the large Reign is 458mm which would be too small, the XL is 480mm which I think would be about perfect.

Hey, some of us have grown to not mind that colour!

FWIW, Giant did bring in 'some' Reign Advanced Team bikes last year, as I was considering getting one, but I had to take it as a full build and it wasn't the most cost viable route (even at trade!).

They were only available to very limited Giant dealers though.

It was hob nob who turned my attention to these, so thanks there buddy, and your bike looks great I think (it should with the kit you have on it!)
I paid less than the price mentioned above, can't have been far from UK trade price I reckon.

I know it is dripping in spendy stuff, but XX1 is lost on me. If I can get a good price for it, I'll go XT 11spd and a RF next chainset, and prob swap the XM1501s for EX1501s. I'll try the brakes, but again might go M8000 XT. I would also have preferred pike RCT3 solo airs but hey ho.

The new Reign 1.5 Ltd looks like a very well specced and great value bike (w/interesting colours!) but not sure if it's coming to the UK.

The reach on the large Reign is 458mm which would be too small

by 7mm?!?!?!
