Will that go in a 'normal' fork? Or boost/plus only?

This picture if pretty striking to me considering I still have three 26" bikes. This looks like it's from a whole different sport.

I really need to test ride one of these modern bike things.

Saw them on a stand at crankworx in August, the rep said they were out soon in North America, and 'after that' for Europe.

There will also be a Minion DHRII for the rear to go along with it. Not out in UK yet but you can see them on the Maxxis website so cant be too far away.

I haven't mounted it up yet, but at the mo, TBH, I'm in no rush as initially it seems way OTT

Wonder if it will still fit in a Bluto if its so big? Not that I want one as ive got a 4.8 FBF which does me for when I want grip.

The DW, to its credit is almost 3" too, so it's not the width, but more the general stoutness of the Minion which gives it an all round more stout look. The knobs are huge - taller and larger base

Ran it for the first time at 10 psi last night (I'm 189 lb's) and unsurprisingly it was performance was as my mate said tank like (that's not to say it was at all slow)

what does it do that the 2.5" doesn't already do very well?

Looks heavy though!

The DW was a real disappointment, 3 years late and still under 3" 🙁

Which DW have you got? Old 27/120tpi, or new 60/120tpi? How does the sidewall support on the DHF compare with your DW?

If it doesn't now, it certainly will when it's clagged up with mud 🙂

Probably best not to think about the rolling resistance either!

@legend, look at the tread depth and the gaps between the blocks, its almost like a full on mud spike, it'll most likely clear extremely well.

I'm not saying it wont, its when you're going too slowly to fire mud off (e.g. Climbing) where it'll weigh a ton

And yet you'll still be on your arse as they fail to dig through the sloppy patch and the bike get disappears sideways from under you.

It's still a long way off a 1630g Bud

~1100g isn't 'heavy' for a winter tyre

I could only find the weights for the 60tpi 2.5" which was 1290 I think - nice to see the 3" is lighter!

I emailed next day tyres asking if they could get them in, but had nothing back (not even an automated)

The bikemonger sells Maxxis - could try dropping him an email request to stock some

29x3.00 Minion DHF Plus 120tpi folding 1110g

Thats website weights you need to add probably 5-10% to that - Maxxis might have found a vernier caliper these days but their scales still seem a bit off 😉 Also worth noting thats a 120TPI single ply. A sidewall normally reserved for the lightest XC tyres. Interesting that they have done that on the 3C and 60TPI on the Dual.... I can't help wonder what the thinking is there?

Ton - I'd say a tad narrower, yes

They come up to about a 2.9"

Chronicles are probably the 'widest' 3" of all

I can remember when that Surly Krampus came out - it looked like a complete freak.
Now, you stick those tyres on a Trek FS and it suddenly looks normal!

I'm still yet to try a plus bike. Must get around to it sometime.
