Afternoon All,
Having scoured the internet, I don't seem to have the definitive answer...
I've currently got a t130rs on wtb i29 (29mm internal width) 27.5 rims and would likey to run 2.6 HR2 on rear and 2.6 DHF on the front. Currently running 2.3 set up but would like to see what the wider hype is all about.
Many users suggest 30mm > (35mm optimum) for using 2.6 tyres.
Question I need to know is, can I run 2.6 tyres on my i29 without any issues or do I need to dig deep, buy a set of say 35mm rims and start from there? Needless to say there is a £300> increase by doing so and as always, money doesn't grow on trees...
Help would be much appreciated (I'm a heavy rider if that sways any decisions)
Cheers!
Internet heresay says most 2.6 tyres are more like rebadged 2.4’s anyway.
Would that negate the need to purchase wider rims to accommodate wider tyres; that's my dilemma...
Some say 30mm is ample but at 29mm I appear to be under the threshold.
Thanks for your response!
Well I would say you'd be fine on your existing rims to notice a benefit of running wider tyres.
for example I run 2.8" happily and recommended on 34mm internal width rims and will be running 2.35" on 24.5mm internal width rims.
There is such a thing as over thinking it... ;d
Youl'll do alright on your current wheels is what I'm saying
Nice one...
I would guess that I'm okay but was hoping for advice from any users on here who have opted for the same choice
Running Specialized Butcher Grids in 2.6, moved up from 2.3, on Roval carbons with 29mm internal width with no problems. It's what Specialized spec up so can't see why moving up a few mil would make a big difference.
Spot on.. cheers mate
yes - 29 mm is no problem at all.
2.6 rubber will work on those rims just fine.
I ran 2.6 maxxis on 25mm wheels for a few rides before upgrading to 30mm. It worked fine
As a note, Mavic have a guide on the side of their rims. The EN427 for example has 1.8-3.0" on a 27mm internal width.
So you'll not have any issues, but you may not get the tyre profile you want. Or you may 😉
ideal fit for the tyre, your main concern should be, how much chainstay clearance once fitted...
Stan’s recommend tyre width if 2.35 to 2.8 for their Flow rims (29mm wide internal).
