Any recommendations? My Bontrager 29-4 tyres have been great all summer but were hopeless on wet roots and rocks last night.
Chunky Monkey gets my vote. Big-ish, sticky and cheap.
Just the wet rocks and roots? Will it be fine if they are crap at grass tarmac and mud?
My 90% of the time UK tyre would be a minion. Ardent might get a look in. Also check for operator error.
just ordered some kenda honey badgers, will let you know next week 😉
Maxxis Beavers, i like them and have had no puncture issues, others very much disagree
Had a Hans Dampf on the front while riding on Arran at the weekend, piss wet and slippy and never once had a moment with it, silly levels of grip. It was a 2.35 which comes up ****in huge! Nic on the back and I have a combo I'll be riding all winter.
Just about any tyre short of a full on super tacky, 2.5"+ wide DH tyre is going to be a handful on wet rocks and roots. It's part of riding MTB's that you just have to be careful on certain terrain when the rain comes!
If I fitted tyres to my bike just to cope with wet rocks and roots (and my local trails have plenty of both), I'd struggle everywhere else as they'd be so heavy and slow they'd take the fun out of the ride...
Good technique is your friend here!
hans dampf front and rear kept me straight and true on mon night when most people where all over the shop. running the pacestars the trailstars would be even better.
