Hi all,
Have a rigid Singular Swift with Sams 470 forks on (well did have), first pair bent forwards, 2nd pair (kindly supplied by Sam@Singular as replacement) bent backwards after a low speed collision with a tree (wheel stayed true but the fork bent back).
Seems the angle of the fork, for me,makes them weak and subseptable to bending forwards or back (if you hit a tree and stop dead !) 😆
So...What steel forks do you use and are they actually any good ?
Thinking Carbon next as been unlucky with the two steel ones but love steel feel !
Any suggestions would be great 💡
Salsa and Pace are my favourite steel forks at the mo on my big wheelers
Anyone reckon they all come out of the same warehouse in Taiwan though ?
Jones truss fork? 😆

Pace ones def didn't, 😆
Don't know how much difference there is between the salsa and the singulars apart from the dropouts
I'm using Salsa Enabler forks with my Swift, and I'm very much liking the feel ... but I'm not sure they'd cope *that* well with a big front-end hit, ah, and you'll need a 135mm OLN front wheel too.
I've also got the 29er variant of Kona's dependable PII's (on the front of my SS 26" wheel'd Kona) - but my instinct is that they'd make a Swift feel a bit lifeless. That said, that's because they do seem pretty tough, reliable forks; so much so I've been exceeding the spec by using a 200mm rotor with mine for ages with no problems (other than the noise of a big flexible rotor always being ever-so-slightly out of true and clinking and pinging with each wheel rotation - although that's nothing to do with the forks of course... 🙄 ).
What's your budget?
If its £££ then get some Vicious or IF forks, or try a UK custom builder like Lee Cooper,Chas Roberts, Robin Mather all of which make a steel 29er fork.

Well, I compared the Singular ones with the Niner ones I have & barring the disc mount they are identical. With steerers cut the same length there were literally a few grams difference. I've given my Niners a good hammering round Cannocks Monkey Trail with no problems. They do feel lovely though. I've had carbon & there is a weight saving but (Niner & DTSwiss aside), your not talking a lot between carbon & steel. I liked the Exotic ones the best. Lovely finish, given the price. On the bike the carbon seemed to give more on bigger hits, but the steel ones seemed to soak up trail buzz better. I looked at Pace's steel fork but just didn't like the crown. Looked too much like that god awful On-One steel fork. 🙂
(On-One frame was nice though)
The point of this waffle...don't go lashing the best part of £200 on the Niner ones. To be fair they do work nicely with the SIR.9 frame. Nicest bike I've ever ridden.
Mine were made by Waltworks. Steel and custom made to suit your riding style and weight. Not cheap.
