Does anyone run a normal 29" wheel on rear and a 27.5+ wheel out front with a 2.8-3" tyre?

If you do, how is it?

I tried it, didn't work as well as I'd thought. A 27.5 x 3.0 tyre is often only about the same diameter as a pretty skinny 29er tyre (like 1.9-2.0"). I think a fatter 29er tyre (2.4 Ardent or Racing Ralph or something) is about 20mm larger diameter than a pretty large 27.5+

If you account for that and get some slightly longer forks up front it'd be fine. Or if you don't mind a slightly quicker front end it'll also be fine.

I've got a 29er 2.4 on the back and a 26x3.8 on the front I like it but the front is smaller than the rear. I also run it with a 29er plus 3.0 up front which is bigger than the rear I like that also 🙂

I'm debating getting a surly Edna 26x4.3 for the front to even up the size a bit but I'm not certain yet. Not that this helps you any lol

One old 29 inch hardtail I bike:

rear 29 x 2.2 (Mountain King II protection), QR

front new 29 inch 130 mm travel boost fork (and one of these uberbike adaptors to fit the tapered fork into the old frame headtube), rubber 29 x 2.35 (Hans Dampf)

Frame was originally designed for a 100 mm fork. Rims front and rear are 25 mm.

This old bike is sooo much fun now. Just great. Feared a bit that the bike won't climb well with this fork. But no problem at all. But maybe due to the fact that the frame is a bit larger than what I normally bike (normally: 19.5 inch, above frame is 21 inch I think).
