Further to my previous thread ( Holy cow I won a bike things have moved on and I'm stuck with a small (first world) problem.

Do I go full on 29'er or Mullet?
Rode a mates mullet eeb the other week and thought that was pretty good.
Never ridden a full (modern) 29'er other than my mates Yeti SB130 for about 5 minutes with the wrong pedals (clipless and I had flat shoes....).
My current bikes are 275 but thinking at least one wagon wheel will be better on a new bike.

New bike will be Nukeproof Mega carbon, either 297 or 290.....

How tall are you/do you regularly ride super steep stuff where buzzing your bum with a 29er might bean issue?

Good point - I'm 5 10'ish.
Don't generally ride super steep stuff, mainly trail centres and Peaks.

I’m 5’9 and gone full 29er (Sentinel Alloy) in the last 6 months.

I reckon I’ve buzzed my backside maybe 6-8 times since I had it. I’ve ridden it a lot - I’m happy with full 29er personally. The buzz has literally just been on really steep tech where I’ve put my weight back probably too far.

I haven’t ridden a mullet yet to compare how that feels - but don’t be put off a 29er for the buzz reason.

I went from a 650b Enduro to a 29er Enduro with no problems with buzzing on steep technical stuff.
My old Turbo Levo was 650b+ and also ran it in 29er. My new Turbo Levo is only available in mullet. No problems with it at Inners last week. I think the buzzing will be down to rider style and position.

Full 29 if you're a full size grown up. Mullet if you want to instabang savage berm schralps.

I was forced onto a 29er by bike theft and I was a little skeptical. 5 minutes into the first ride I knew I wouldn't bother with small wheels anymore.

5ft 10" - you're almost proper sized then 😁

I'd go for 29er, more so if you're getting something spec'd with carbon wheels as they get around the extra weight/reduced agility of a 29er wheel.

(Almost) Full size, but others might debate the 'grown up' bit lol

Not really into berm schralping (mainly because I can't!)

I’m 1.81m. That’s 5’11 1/2” in bojo imperial measurements. Had 2 29ers. I moved straight from 26ers.
The 150 travel one I used to buzz my bum sometimes riding steep stuff cos it made me ride stuff I was scared of and I hung off the back too much. Current bike has 130 in the rear and I don’t buzz my bum on it. I’m probably riding the same stuff as on the bigger bike but I’m no longer scared of it and have better body position. 29erz rock. Mullets probably rock as well.

If I were choosing I'd go mullet.

I have a 29er now and I hate buzzing my arse on the back wheel on steep bits

Trail steepness and riding style has a big bearing.

But I don’t think it’s your height that matters, it’s your leg length. If your legs are <30” then you’ll probably prefer 27.5” rear. If your legs are >34” then you’ll rarely run into clearance issues.

I’m 5’10.5” with long legs (almost 34”). I ride 29” hardtail and 29” full-sus. If I had a DH bike then that would be mullet because of the steeper trails it would be on and the greater rear travel.

The flatter the trails the better the 29” rear because of how it carries speed over the rough. I know in theory it doesn’t pump as well as a smaller wheel but I don’t have a problem generating speed through pumping. On a hardtail the bigger rear wheel is so much better!

29er all the way. Not being able to swap tyres between the wheels would do my head in.

I changed from 650b to 29er 3 years ago and have been comtemplating a mullet. I managed to demo my 29er and a new Mullet bike by the same brand with the same tune and shock placement.

Dont believe the hype . . Slow draggy amd close the one of the worse bikes ive ridden ..

29er all the way

1m77 and I'd go mullet. I've had 26, 27.5, 29ers and mulletted 29ers. The 27.5 was the most fun, the 29er the fastest but the least fun. The mullet is the best compromise for the riding I do (steep tech).

Don’t generally ride super steep stuff, mainly trail centres and Peaks.

I'd say a 29er would probably suit for that (I'd still go mullet though...)

I remember your other thread 🙂

Sounds like the full 29 might suit you best if you're not really into slashing turns.

I enjoy it myself and I'd probably still get the 29er if it were my one bike. But the ideal would be a bike that could handle either via a flip chip or whatever.
