looking at trusty Bonty Muds or Maxxiss Beaver for single speed
Any other thoughts/offers available
Got a pair of Bonty Muds which have never been used and are unlikey to be used now. One was fitted only, other is still in packaging.
Email in profile, let me know if you're interested.
I use mud-X's and they work. Apparently beavers are more all round capable
I use Bonty Muds on 26er so if they are half as good would be happy.
i have beavers they are a good mud tyre but the side walls are realy thin.
Mud X's here been useing them all ****ing summer so far 👿
mud x are ace, not at all draggy on dry/tarmac either, but brilliant in mud
Rocketdog- how do you find them on roots and rocks? Maybe I didn't give them long enough but I found them a little scary
They're not as good as normal tyres, but they coped with the mud/grass & roots at Mayhem just fine
not many rocks around here mainly all roots and mud and clay, work well, no tyre is immune to slimey roots though
Loving the beaver here.
SS, or gears, as if that makes a difference!
Just about to stick the Mud X's back on my 29er!
I find them a bit too narrow on the front, but excellent as a rear mud TL tyre - although I struggle to get them inflated on bonty rhythm rims without a co2 cartridge
What are the real-life widths of the Bontragers like?
Just got a Scott Scale 29er and there is bugger all clearance on the chainstays with the supplied 2.25 Rocket Rons...
50-52mm-ish

Cheers.. is that the 2.0, or 2.2s?
The MudXs never come off my singlespeed 29er.
2.0 version
I love beaver- just note there is weight limit of 85 kg if I remember correctly
love the beaver...weight limit!!! what???
Have you ever seen a 85 kg beaver 😯
Mud X all year round on my Fargo, too. I think they're pretty much unbeatable as an all round tyre (in a permanently wet north east England) but some on here hate it, especially in 29. Really don't know what they don't like about them.
Beaver - s****s

I have been impressed with the Hans Dampf 29er rubber this week. Very very good in the mud.
Guys I've just stuck some Rocket Ron cyclocross tyres on, they are sooooooo fast & the muddier it is the better they grip! We get a mix of singletrack, fields, firetrack & trails, lots of roots but very few rocks so sidewalls not an issue, only problem was they wouldn't fit tubeless. Wouldn't want to use them on dusty trails in summer, they'll be my default winter tyre from now on thou 🙂
Mud X or XR Mud are no longer made as a 29er tyre . Personally I loved them on my 26 wheels but hated them on my 29er .
May not still be made but definitely still available:

Mud X are brilliant on mud and cope fine with rocks and roots here on Dartmoor, but I do find the 29" flavour seems a lot more draggy on climbs than the 26" version, which I've run year round on my singlespeed for about 4 years.
