Has anyone had a go at going semi-fat up front on a 29er inbred, tempted to dip my toe in for the winter months on a rigid...
Any pictures of setups?

By many accounts 27.5+ is worse in the mud than a 29er and very sensitive to tyre pressure, so may not be worthwhile. Some new tyres might be better but you might do just as well with a decent 29 winter tyre.

I've got a 650+ bike and I'm looking for 29er wheels for winter.
