So after no reply about my query about the Sector 9i wheels.

What other £1k ish wheels would the STW hive would recommend, internal diameter of 30mm, good warranty etc.

The options I can think of are the new Bontrager line pro 30 wheels, DT Swiss XM1501’s or pushing the budget a bit, Santa Cruz reserve 30’s.

Why spend a grand when you could get DT 240s/EX511 built up for a few hundred notes less? Basically a 1501 but without the annoying spokes.

DT Swiss XM1501....several of us have them and they are just good strong reliable wheels and fairly lightweight as a bonus too

Or like other have said, ex511 with whatever your hub choice for a fair bit less

Eldest_oab bought a Halo Vortex for rear wheel - so far it's been strong and longer lasting than previous two wheels. It's got little things like stainless steel inserts on the freehub to prevent cassette biting in and good seals.
It's impressed me with how true is stayed under his abuse/use, it's also got full suite of spare parts available. Which cannot be said for the RaceFace pile of shiiiiite we had before this - no spare pawls or springs.
It's not the lightest.

I can't see past factory built xm1501 for any use. choose your width or jump to ex if you're a biffer.
Tried carbon, lasted 2 rides with a rimpact. I've a set of xm1501 30's 3 seasons old now with no inserts and no dents.

Not sure what's annoying about the competition spokes unless you mean straight pull vs j-bend..

But yes, jumping to 32 hole or dodging straight pull for some reason then a hand built 240/xm481 combo will be superb.

The we are one wheel set was coming in at $1400 at last look that was around £1k. I guess you might get stung impost though so might bump the price up a bit. That was direct from we are one. I have heard you can message them and ask for other hubs that are cheaper, like a dt 350 hub for example

Another xm1501 owner here. £800ish rrp although I got my set for £500 in a sale. Absolutely bombproof, light and strong, lovely hubs. I've had my set for 2 years, used and abused and still perfectly straight.

I don't get what the hate is towards straight pull spokes. Never had any issues.

I've done carbon, too cracky. Decent aluminium is where it's at.

Just built myself some dtswiss xm481 on the new 240exp hubs. 32 Sapim dlight spokes. Lovely wheels. I know the rims are good as I have them on hope on my HT. The hubs are lovely and smooth and just sound/feel fast.
Cost me about £600. If you are Hampshire/Sussex way I can build them for you for nowt

Industry Nine Enduro S - Hydra hubs on alloy rims come in at around £950 and are cracking wheels.

We Are One rims come in at £1400 on Hope hubs but £1700+ on Hydras

Yeah just SP vs j-bend. I may be unlucky, but all the straight pull spokes I've had have seized on the nipple. May be an easy fix, but not one needed with j-bend! They do look cool though and I'm sure have their merits structurally. Does seem pointless to shell out extra for the factory build sets over custom though (not checked prices correct me if I'm wrong!)

I’ve had 2 sets of Hydras and no problems at all, although you do need to stay on top of the bearings which seem to wear faster.

More than worth it for the instant engagement though. Makes the Hope hubs on my other wheels feel horrid.
