Prefer something with vertical dropouts and no EBB

Great budget XC race bike, but I can tell you as someone that sells KTM, the tyre clearance is 2.25" at best! Anything bigger will clog almost instantly, or the tyre will rub when under wheel deflection.

Again, having sold a couple and the GF rand one long term, wouldn't want to run bigger than a 2.25" or a small 2.3" in there myself.

I had a Kinesis Sync Ti 29er for a year, that was a nice frame. 2.35" Hans Dampf went in OK in the back of that.

Mk1 Sherpa has reasonable tyre clearance (GF has one of these now), a 2.25" has decent clearance, a 2.3" fits ok, bit tight for a 2.35" Schwalbe though. MK2 frame is better again for sure, both are better than its direct competitor the Cotic Solaris.

Just bought a new Whyte 529 as a donor bike (629 which has the same frame comes with an awesome spec for around £1k!), came fitted with a 2.25" Crossmark on the back with a fair amount of tyre clearance. Certainly more than the FF29.

Kona Honzo/Taro has good rear clearance (well, the older ones with 420mm stays do, new 415mm stay version not so much!), a 2.3" goes in easy, a 2.4" Ardent would fit with a bit of clearance. Both NEED a massive rear tyre to compensate for the incredibly stiff back end though mind!

There's a few new school 29ers coming out with bigger tyre clearances, but seems they're all going Boost148, so no use if you've already got a non boost wheelset.

Hope that helps!

Thanks all

I've actually got a Mk 1 Sherpa and I really like it except I'd like to be able to run a wider rim + tyre combo but the clearance is going to be too tight

Best start saving for a Mk 2!
