hi, I took my 29er hardtail for a ride at the weekend and had 3 rear punctures which kinda sucked.

they were all pinch punctures and I probably had 40psi in the rear.

im new to 29ers. usually I'd buy double ply tyres and/or DH tubes but don't see that as an option with wagon wheels.

what are my options (besides going tubeless)? Don't care about weight if it means I can avoid having to nurse my bike down the best descent of the day cos I'd run our of patches and tubes

cheers

at 95Kg on 29er tyres I too used to pinch regularly. I finally bit the bullet and went tubeless 4 yrs ago and wish I had done it sooner. Not had a flat since.

Go tubeless, drop 15psi, win.

Tubeless is without a doubt the way you need to go. If you're running 40psi in the tubes then whilst it may sometimes prevent the snakebites, it's also costing you grip. Tyres that hard won't work anywhere near as well as some with say 25-30psi.

There's loads of tougher 29er tyres. Specialized do the grid casing, Conti have Apex Protection, Schwalbe have Super Gravity, Maxxis EXO.........

Although clearly tubeless would be the best port of call to start off with.

Why wouldn't you go tubeless?

Schwalbe Supergravity Rock Razor or WTB tough/fast Trail Boss for the rear?

But +1 for go tubeless!

I like spec ground control & purgatory in grid. Butcher is also a good option.

But go tubeless. Why wouldn't you indeed.

Spec tyres are done of the easiest to set up too.
