Hi all,

I’m looking for a fairly fast rolling 29er 2.6 read tire for my hardtail. I ride natural trail And trail centres in South Wales. I currently have a slaughter 2.35 which is fast but I’d like a bit more cushioning as I’ve come from a plus hardtail. Any suggestions?

cheers

We use a 2.6 Vittoria Mezcal on the back of the tandem, rolls really well and has held up really well so far, had a Terrene McFly 2.8 tough version before which came up to similar width/volume also quick not quite as quick as the Mezcal though.

It's daft but there's still no semi slick 2.6 available. The Rock Razor 2.35 is a decent size though and gives a fair bit more cushioning than the Slaughter- tbf if Maxxis did a 2.6 minion SS, there's a decent chance it'd be smaller than the razor 2.35.

Loving the new Hans dampf in 2.35, and it also comes in 2.6 so I'd consider that if I were in your position

The vittoria are supposed to be good.. Won't fit my frame though. I have hans damf 2.35 very grippy but not the quickest if that is important at all to you.
If you you Google bikepacking tyres rolling resistance there is a test somewhere that shows which ones work best. The transdivide race also has rig breakdowns of the racers and there are a few on maxxis Ikon as well....
