The Manitous that came on my Stache 5 aren't to my taste and rather flexy so what other 29 plus suspension forks are available? SRAM mention a 29+ Yari and Pike but they don't seem to be available unless you're an OEM as far as I can see. What else is available that isn't Manitou and isn't something oddball like a Lauf? Unless of course the Pikes are available which would be ideal!
I ran 29 x 3 Surly Dirt Wizards in my 29/27.5+ Boost Pikes.
I think mrp stages take them. I'm sure surly had a krampus with them on when they first released it.

I don't suppose you have a photo of how much clearance you had do you?

I just couldn't - I would be scared all the time 😆

Really? The almost identical Manutous I had on my Stache were absolutely rick solid. And also just about the best forks I've ever used. Only my Lyrics better them.
I don't think anyone else makes a 29 plus fork really.

I think if the OP is talking about a '17 stache 5 the forks are some 32mm stanchion versions of the magnum. Even looking at them in the shop they looked a little underweight.
Correct - the 2017 Stache 5 has Manitou Machete Comp 32
Wow 32s on the 2017 sure do look out of place! I have just fitted some mattock pro forks on my 5. 34mm tubes and very stiff. They are amazing forks!

Ohh I see, sorry, ignore me if that's the case. 🙂

I don't, but if I have time tomorrow I'll chuck a DW tyre on a wheel and take one.
Blutos for maximum mud clearance.
Actually that was said half tongue-in-cheek but mine seem like a decent set of forks, can be picked up for a bit over £300 (second hand, about £400 new), and you would be able to run over-3" tyres if you wanted.
Edit - actually scrap that - they're for 150 hubs so youd end up faffing with hub and disc spacers to get a fit, probably more trouble than its worth.
Sorry! - as you were 🙂
Been searching for a pair of the new 29+ Pikes or Yaris myself. Hopefully they will start to appear soon.
Problem is I reckon the pikes will retail at £600 being a real niche market. The magnums are just over £400 if you shop carefully and they really are brilliant. I have always had Rockshox (rebas / pikes and revelations) and since getting the manitous, I now actually feel the difference between all the settings and having stripped to reduce travel, the guts seem much better put together.
The 2017 Fox 34 27.5, Boost fork will take a 29*3 tyre with about 10mm of clearance at the arch and on the lowers.
But it's over £800
So, I ended up buying a set of Manitou Magnum Pro. Much stiffer than the 2mm increase over the Machete would imply, massively adjustable and a pretty much night and day difference in the damping. I'd recommend them to anyone looking for a 29 plus fork. The Machete is massively "spiky" blowing through its travel and then stalling where as the Magnum Pro is "floaty".
How have you set yours up? I never really got a setup on mine I liked, and they only had 110mm of travel - even with all the air out. Do you get 120mm on yours?
Mine are sat in the shed now anyway as I switched my stache to 27.5+ but I might refit them sometime. Be good to see if I can set them up a bit better.
I haven't done a proper setup yet - even out of the box (OK I set the air pressure) they just seemed to work and I wanted to go for a ride. No idea how much travel I've used TBH.
Did you set the pressure in yours with them upside down?
Guess so as that's where the valve is, if I remember rightly? Mine came with a 2nd hand bike but had been serviced by TF. Who couldn't tell me what travel they arrived with, before the service... so maybe they're all like that from the factory.
Hi Alex,
To the best of my knowledge they were the stock 110mm as supplied by Trek with the bike.
However, I couldn't get much more than 90mm ish of full travel out of them.
Perhaps they are designed to ramp up at the end of the travel to prevent bottoming out?
Dunno, but I quite liked them.

Thanks Denis. I'll get a responsible adult to pull them apart just to see. They worked fine, I just found the multiple adjustments a bit much for my little brain. The Yari on there now is a whole lot simpler!

cooie - would really love to see that photo! Or just to know how much clearance there was? And to know what internal width rims you're running the dirt wizards on for reference...
Sorry for the old addition to this post but I googled a thousand times to find info about a fork that would work with 29+ and didn't find anything conclusive about normal (not specifically designed for 29+) forks that did work.
I'm now using a 2017 Fox 34 29 non-boost with a 35mm rim and Bomboloni tyre with plenty of space all round.
It was an expensive fork but means I can use one pair of 29+ wheels with both rigid and suspension options depending on season. My riding buddy uses a Stache 5 and my 34 29 would work perfectly on that frame too. Important bit being it is non-boost so you can use the stock wheel.
Hi guys! It looks like the topic has died.
I would really like to find out which 27.5+ forks could take the 29+ rubber and how much clearance is there around the lower legs arch.
@cooie - did you had a chance to take that picture of your 27.5+Pike with 29x3 Surly Dirt Wizards?
Any other advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers!
