Specialized storm for really muddy or specialized butcher front and captain rear for mixed...good price tyres

Maxxis Beavers are great.

Used a Spesh Storm 2.0 on the rear last winter. Decent in the mud, will be going on again once it gets gloopy.

I use specialized butcher front and either captain or ground control rear until it's really wet then I run storm controls, good priced tyres..

Used a 26 storm last winter and was excellent. No reason to think the 29 is any different.

Does no-one else like Purgatory Controls?

What's the ground control like on the rear? Not keen on putting a full on mud tyre on the back as I usually do a few miles of tarmac and path to the trails and although they get very muddy, it's wet mud rather than the full on claggy, sticky stuff. I run a Geax Saguaro for summer - no need to take it off yet. Got a Purgatory up front which I'll leave on all winter I think.

Racing Ralph &/or Nobby Nic, depending on conditions.
Mostly Ralphs, front & rear.

+1 for Spesh Storms in 26" flavour. As soon as the gloopiness arrives, I'll be buying a set for my new 29er.

What sort of riding? This would depict tyre recommendation

+1 for nobby nic, snakeskin pacestar flavour, I got on fine with them last winter. it's an allrounder that does ok in mud but is good on all the bits in between the muddy bits as well, and fast rolling on roads too.

maxxis beaver (in the heavier version whatever it's called) is meant to be an amazing 29er mud tyre that doesn't completely suck on roots/rock if that's what you want though. it will be draggier on roads however.

Same tyres all year round as ground is always rocky. Ditched the paper thin Specialized Butcher Pergatory combo for gravity casing Magic Mary Hans Dampf

Using a Magic Mary on the front and a Mountain King 2.4 on the back. The Magic Mary is well... magic, extremely grippy but not too draggy, although I am not too sure if I would want it on the back. The Mountain King is OK but slides in really wet conditions.

Maxxis beaver front and rear were good for the 2 muddy/wet rides I used them for at the start of August. Think I might get something a bit bigger like a chunky monkey up front for a bit more grip on wet roots etc.

Maxxis Beavers, I prefer the 2.25 flavour, for an more all round wet weather tyre, over the mud slicing ability of the 2.0
