I'm toying with fitting a set of suspension forks to my Krampus, are there currently any good deals out there?

I currently have a set of OEM Surly rigid forks which are fine but I'd like to get a bit more give at the front end than I get from a 29x3 tyre.

Ideally I'd like QR forks rather than Maxle as my front wheel has a QR hub and I'd rather not have to get it rebuilt as I'd like to have the option og returning to rigid riding without too much hassle.

I don't think what you are looking for exists. The only 29+ suspension forks I've seen are boost with 15mm axles.

Hmmm, DIY?

Made me think of this cut'n'shut magura fat fork from a couple of years ago...

Or a 29er USD fork might be a bit simpler, like the X-fusion Revel perhaps?

Not sure if a 3" tyre would clear the crown at full compression though, might still require some tinkering...

Sorry missed the QR requirement...

DO Jones Truss forks come in QR flavour?
Probably no cheaper TBH...

Thanks for the replies.

I'd a feeling I might be looking for something that didn't exist :-S

Ah well, time to look into wheel costs I guess.

Any thoughts on a suitable fork with a 15mm axle?

I'm not sure it exists either but at the start of 29+ bikes people were using a 29er Fox fork with some success. It was non boost and I'd imagine more common in 15mm flavour but you never know. Try MTBR forum in the plus section.

What's your front wheel? Not possible to convert to a thru-axle?

@ajantom, I was just thinking the same thing.

My wheels are standard Surly Rabbit Hole rims with Surly Ultra New Disc hubs like this, with the hex bolt fixing Surly Ultra New Disc Hub

Not sure (yet) if they're convertible into through axle fixing but am Googling...

There isn't a lot of choice. Keep an eye on ebay as the Yari and Pike come up now and then, there was a brand new Yari 29+ went for £350 a couple weeks ago.

The new Manitou Mattoc comes in 29+ version which will replace the Magnum above but I don't know when or where you will be able to buy them.

Thanks folks, it appears that my existing hubs can't be converted to take a 15mm through axle, largely due to them only having a 12mm axle hole.

Looks as though a new wheel (or at least hub) is required.

This is turning into a rather more expensive exercise than I anticipated...

I think I saw someone selling his fork from Trek Stache in the classifieds section, search through few pages back, you might be lucky
